John Naughright Obituary

John D. Naughright, IV

AGE: 97 • Long Valley

John D. Naughright, IV passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Thursday, March 31, 2011. A lifelong resident born in his Naughright, Long Valley, NJ home. A humble and private man who'd never boast. He loved God, life, friends and family most. John found friendships and comfort as a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Mountain church. When asked, what he did in life, he'd always respond...in WWII, I was a navigator and ship radio operator aboard the USS De Grasse, I was a teacher 25 years, was in real estate 25 years and goofed off over 25 years golfing, flying his planes and 10 am ham radio everyday.

Predeceased by his father, John D. Naughright, III; his mother, Marietta Read; two sisters, Catherine (Kay) and Betty Adele. John's wives Virginia (Ginny), the Love of his Life and Betty, his best friend. He will be missed by his only child, John D. (J.D., Jay) Naughright, V; his "baby sister," Ann Seymour of Stuart, FL and her husband (the brother he never had), Walter Dodson Seymour; grandchildren, Heather Henson (OK), John D. Naughright, VI (CT) and Zachary N. Naughright (affectionately called "my boy"), Long Valley; a great grandson, Dylan Henson (OK) and several nieces and nephews.

At John's request, arrangements and internment were private.

Jay and family....
We would like to extend to you our
deepest condolences on the loss of
your father.
Mr. Naughright was a wonderful, kind and caring man as well as a great school teacher at High Bridge High School.
We got to talk with him about the memories from our time at High Bridge
High School when he attended our class
reunion two years ago. We will miss
seeing him there at future reunions.
You are in our thoughts and prayers

I have known Mr. Naughright since 1953 or 1954 (I know I was in 2nd grade at the time) when my parents rented their farm in Naughright. I went to school with Jay D., however, he was a bit younger than I. I knew His beloved wife Virginia and always remember when caroling around Christmas she always had us in for Hot Chocolate. When I would return to NJ I would always try to make a point of visiting with Mr. Naughright as he was one of the warmest, caring people I know. Hopefully he is at peace now and will always be remembered for all the community and public ventures he pursued to help the community and neighbors. God Bless his family at this most difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of John. He was the last of the true gentlemen. He was funny, kind, and interesting. A true American. He loved his family, his country, and his toys. He was my friend, and I will miss his smiles.

I have known John Naughright for over 35 years and never have I heard him say anything negative about anyone. John was a teacher, a football coach, a ham radio operator, a realtor, and a pilot, but I knew him as a friend and a person with the highest standards of decency and honesty. For me I can say that it was a real privilege to have known John and to be able to call him a friend! He was the ROCK of Long Valley and will be missed by many. Rest in peace my friend and may the "Perpetual Light Shine Upon You."

Mr. Naughright was a wonderful teacher and person and I am so proud to have been one of his students and so happy to have seen him again just a few years ago at our reunion. He will be missed but is now at peace and lived and long and fullfilling life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time but memories will live forever!

Mr Naughright was my favorite teacher in high school. He was the nicest man, and I will never forget him. I spoke to him at a class reunion in 1994 and he was the same warm person I had remembered. May he rest in peace.

Rest in peace, Mr. Naughright. You were by far the most caring and compassionate teacher I have ever known. You made everyone in your class feel as though they could succeed in whatever they chose to do with their lives. It was truly a blessing to have known and been instructed by you. Thank you.
