Joseph Calvanelli Obituary
AGE: 84 • Monroe Township
Joseph V. Calvanelli, Sr., 84, of Monroe Township, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at The Gardens at Monroe surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Kendall Park from 1960 until moving to Monroe Township in 1999. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran and a Communicant of St. Cecilia's Church. Joseph retired in 1994 from Tectonic Associates (Somerville, NJ) after a 32 year career in Civil Engineering and Field Surveying. He was a Board member of the Health Department Zoning Board, Recreation Department and Planning Board, serving as Planning Board Chair for 9 years. Joseph served as Mayor of South Brunswick Township in 1987. He was involved in the Recreation Department Girls Softball and Boys Baseball leagues in the 60's and 70's. A Member and past President of the South Brunswick Lions Club, he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
Son of the late Peter and Maria (Livornese) Calvanelli, he is survived by his wife of 61 years Muriel (Brassell) Calvanelli, a son and daughter-in-law Joseph V. and Eileen T. Calvanelli, Jr., 2 daughters and a son-in-law Debra A. and Jay R. Hackworth, Barbara L. Calvanelli, 4 grandsons Travis J. Hackworth and his wife Lynsay Bader, Grant R. Hackworth, Cal J. Hackworth, Peter J. Calvanelli, and a special friend of the Calvanelli family Robert Cleffi.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2-5 pm at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. A Cryptside service will be held 10:00am on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Holy Cross Burial Park, Cranbury-South River Road, South Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or charity of donors choice.
