Steven Fulda Obituary

Steven Max Fulda

Madison - Steven Max Fulda of Madison, New Jersey, died peacefully at home with family on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, at the age of 88. He was born in Kassel, Germany, in 1932. With his parents and sister, he immigrated in 1939 to Dallas, TX. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1950 and Southern Methodist University in 1954 with degrees in Applied Math & Physics and later, earned Master's degrees in Applied Math and Systems Engineering at NYU. After college, he served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Okinawa, where he and Sandra, the love of his life, married and then lived for two years. They moved to Madison, New Jersey in 1957 where they raised their three children, Gordon, Mariane, and Andrew. Steve was very active in the community including many years with the Patriot's Path Council of BSA, Rotary Club of Madison, Madison YMCA, Park Avenue Club and Light Opera of NJ. He and Sandra were long time members of Grace Episcopal Church.

In his professional life, Steve was a Bell Labs/AT&T career man, retiring as an Associate Director of Business Strategy and Planning. He also served in the Air Force Reserves for many years, retiring with the rank of Major. In his post-'retirement' years, he was an adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Rothman School of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University and continued to work with business clients as director of 'Fulda Business Planners'. He served on numerous corporate boards.

Steve had many passions in life, namely family, history, music, travel, and outdoor activities. Along with Sandra, who was a professional pianist, Steve shared a deep appreciation for classical music, playing the cello and singing in a number of choirs throughout his years. Steve and Sandra traveled overseas to Europe and Asia on numerous occasions and took their children on cross-country road trips, instilling a lifelong love for travel in their children and then their grandchildren. They spent many summers at their shorehouse on Long Beach Island, creating lasting memories as a family.

Steve was deeply loved by his family and will be missed tremendously. A profoundly kind and optimistic man, Steve had a contagious smile and made a lasting impact on those around him with his wisdom, warm charisma, and proclivity for mentoring. His love for his wife Sandra was boundless, and together they enjoyed their marriage for 55 wonderful years before her death in 2012. Steve maintained close relationships with all of his family, including his nieces in Colorado and cousins overseas. He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather for generations to come.

Steve's loving family consists of his children Gordon (Lynelle) of Fairfield, CT, Mariane of Morristown, NJ, and Andrew (Felicia) of High Bridge, NJ. Steve is also survived by his nieces Trudy and Nancy (Denny), as well as grandchildren Brian, Kaitlin, Alexandra, William, Kyra, Evelynne, and Marie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Great Swamp Watershed Association, Box 300, New Vernon, NJ 07976 or a charity of your choice.

There will be a celebration of life held for Steve this summer.

So sorry to see that Steven Fulda passed away. He would always tell me that we were both second and third cousins. He was the person who kept the Weiler and Fulda family tree alive with his wealth of knowledge of the family tree. He was always so warm and friendly.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Steve was such a ray of sunshine and probably the one who encouraged me to keep up in playing the cello. What a wonderful mentor and friend he was.

Steve Fulda was my boss at AT&T in New York from 1974 to ‘77. He enabled me to transition from engineering at Bell Labs to corporate planning by having faith in me.
Steve was kind, supportive and a patient teacher. I can honestly say that I never saw Steve angry about anything. He was an ethical and honorable man. I am grateful for having known Steve and for the numerous opportunities he provided.
Steven Max Fulda was, indeed, one of the good guys. He shall be missed.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Steve was one of the good guys. Always ready to help. You didn't have to ask. His innate sense of service was profound. More than a few Eagle Scouts owe him a thanks.
I never heard him say anything unkind or unhelpful. He was a good and reliable friend. I'll miss him.

Another of Steve's many legacies was his dedication to life-long friendships. He and my father, Hugh, grew up together in Old East Dallas. They were never out of touch no matter how many years and miles intervened. It remains one of my great privileges to have been in the same room for some of those reunions and sessions to reminisce. Steve was a great life architect!

Steve was an encouraging and wonderful man. We've known the family since we were young. Whether giving me the motivation to further my cello endeavors, greeting us at one of the kids' parties or just having a swim and comparing notes, he was one of the kindest and most humble people I have ever met. We will miss Steve and Sandra for many years to come, I'm sure.
