The Perconti Obituary

The Hon. Joseph C. Perconti

Boonton Township - The Hon. Joseph C. Perconti, 54, of Boonton Township, NJ completed his journey home with his family by his side on November 8, 2019. Joe was a warrior who battled glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, for the past five years. A Judge, family man, confidant, and gentleman, Joe fulfilled many important roles to many different people, and exceled at them all. His strength, determination, and steadfast love for his family is inspiring. His sense of humor, personal charm, and fun-loving spirit will be missed. Although no longer physically here, his family takes solace in knowing that his spirit will continue to live on and inspire us all indefinitely.

Joe was born and raised in North Haledon, New Jersey. He played varsity baseball at Boston University and was made captain of the team his sophomore year. Joe graduated Cooley Law School with high distinction, winning the Property book award. A proud member of the Passaic Bar Association, he worked in private practice for over twenty years before joining the Damiano Law Offices. Joe loved his profession and being in the courtroom. Up until his passing, Joe served as a municipal Judge in Ringwood, Wanaque, West Milford, and as a Central Judicial Processing Judge (appointed by New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart J. Rabner) in Paterson. He was also a Planning Board Attorney for Wyckoff. To fulfill these challenging roles while fighting glioblastoma is, needless to say, very impressive.

His previous professional service includes: Municipal Judge (Prospect Park), Special Counsel (City of Paterson), Municipal Prosecutor (Totowa, Prospect Park, and Wanaque), and Public Defender (North Haledon).

Joe's professional accolades are countless but a couple to mention are his Distinguished Family Practice Award (2016) and his recognition as a New Jersey Super Lawyer (2013 and 2014). Joe's community outreach in Passaic and Morris Counties is praiseworthy. From coaching Little League to the Manchester High School Regional Moot Court team (and winning!), Joe has touched and changed so many lives. He followed his grandfather and father's footsteps in joining the Fidelians of America, U.N.I.C.O., and the North Haledon Fire Department.

Joe's giving spirit continues after his death. His body is donated to Rutgers - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for teaching and research endeavors. His loving family includes his wife, Cynthia H. Perconti, children Olivia H. and Garrett J. Perconti, sister Elizabeth A. Perconti-Buck and husband Bryce J. Buck, nephews Brendan B. and Ryan J. Buck, parents-in-law Roger and Paula H. Worthington of Beaver Creek, MD, and brother-in-law Eric B. Worthington of Hagerstown, MD. He will be welcomed by his parents Joseph A. and Mary-Sue Perconti on the other side. We could not be prouder of Joe and we thank him for an incredible fifty-four years.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Consolation R.C. Church (1799 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, NJ) on Wednesday, November 13 at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HUMC Brain and Spine Institute with "In memory of Joseph Perconti" in the memo line. Please mail to: John Theurer Cancer Center, Attn: Nancy Kennedy, 92 Second Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 or access https://www.hackensackumc.org/donate/ways-to-give/honor-remembrance-gifts/ and choose "The Caroline Fund/Brain and Spine Research Institute."

I'm very sorry for your loss of Joe.
He was a great quality kid; an exceptional second baseman and one of the cornerstones of our program when the university brought back baseball as a varsity sport. He will be missed by myself and his teammates.

Very sad to hear of Joe's passing away. A wonderful, fun man who sadly leaves an equally fun, wonderful family behind, and many saddened family members, friends and colleagues.

Our hearts especially go out to Cynthia, Olivia and Garrett, and Joe's relatives.

I'm very saddened to read of Joe's passing. He was always congenial and professional whether I was appearing before him or he before one of my Boards and he was a very decent and capable man. My condolences.

Joe Perconti was always a great person from the first day I met him , many years ago, & one of the few in my life I totally respected , trusted, my friend, & never , ever changed . In short , Joe was fair, honest, giving, humble, & pulled no punches...He was a true ,Attorney & Litigator ,who got in there & fought for his clients , not just a Lawyer, looking for a payday, a Justice be done , though the Heavens may fall , Judge , fair but firm . As Prosecutor, sought only the truth & never became a Persecutor, as a friend , He told you like it is, not what it was not, & a Man, who's yes meant yes & his no meant no. One of the last , of the honorable old guard... I will miss him & never forget him. Rest In Peace, & when it's my time, Joe, I know you will be there to plead my case!!!
With Much Sorrow & All My Respect,
Steve
