William (Bill) J. Prendergast, Jr.

Morristown - William (Bill) J. Prendergast, Jr., died peacefully on August 14, 2021 in Morristown, NJ. He was 80 years old.

Born August 19, 1940 to Mary Agnes and William Prendergast, Bill was a lifelong resident of Morris Township. He graduated from Bayley Ellard High School. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the U.S.S. Nitro.

He returned home in 1964 and soon thereafter married the love of his life, Jeanne, with whom he raised 2 children. Bill graduated from the Police Academy and joined the Morris Twp. Police Department. He retired from the force, with notable accolades for his bravery and dedication, after 26 years of service.

The remainder of his career was spent, very happily, as an employee of Atlantic Health where he worked until his retirement in 2010.

Bill was a 50 year member of the Woodland Hook & Ladder, Co., member of P.B.A. Local 133, and a founding member of the Morris Twp. Office of Emergency Management.

He enjoyed early mornings, tending to his yard, and a good crossword puzzle.

He is survived by his loving children, Shawn (Suzanne) Prendergast of Long Valley and Kimberly (Peter) Wohlgemuth of Randolph; his three grandchildren: Jack (Taiyeba), Emily, and Abigail; brother John (Carol) Prendergast; sister Patricia Cavanaugh; sister-in-law, Judy Prendergast; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Jeanne (nee Fisher); parents William and Mary Agnes; brothers, Hugh and Brian Prendergast; sister, Mary Neubauer; sister, Elinor Fritz.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Bill's memory be made to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, Madison, NJ: www.sthuberts.org
