Richard W. Mountjoy
Richard W. Mountjoy went home to his Lord and Savior on June 11, 2022. Richard was loving, kind, caring, funny, faithful, helpful and he was kind to everyone he met. He is now rejoicing in heaven with his parents, father Oliver (Fire Chief), mother, Elsie (homemaker), his four grandparents and many Christian relatives and friends. He loved God, family, country and proudly served in the United States Navy.
Richard sang 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic' at his graduation from Ellensburg High School in 1953. He worked a short time on construction at CWU before fighting fires with the Forest Service in Kittitas County. He married Audrey Anderson and they were blessed with two sons: Douglas and Harry. He was working for Boeing as a firefighter in Moses Lake driving a large fire truck and unexpectedly did a 180 on an icy tarmac. He was offered a job in Alaska at Clear Air Force Base and moved his family to The Last Frontier.
Like his father and grandfather, Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing and was frequently successful at both. He kept his family supplied with deer, elk, moose, caribou, bear, and salmon. He was a charter member and helped start the First Baptist Church in Anderson, Alaska.
Richard moved back to Ellensburg after a medical retirement from the Fort Richardson Fire Dept in Anchorage, Alaska in 1991 and married Pat Jones. Pat was a longtime family friend. You could frequently see them walking hand-in-hand around town. They liked to travel, cross country ski, help people, and enjoy seeing God's beautiful creation with their 5th wheel trailer. Richard worked part-time for Ajax Janitorial.
Richard and Pat delivered Meals on Wheels from 2006 - 2018. They volunteered at the FISH Food Bank for many years. As a member of the First Christian Church, Richard took many trips to Mexico to help with the building of homes. He was a long-time member of the Kittitas County Field and Stream and helped with cleanup projects.
After falling at home on Christmas Eve, Richard spent a few days in KVH before being transferred to Prestige where he passed to his heavenly home.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat, son Douglas Mountjoy in Texas, son Harry (Laura) Mountjoy of Ellensburg, sister Donna Senter, 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two nephews and one great niece and one nephew and many cousins. He was greatly loved and his kindness and sense of humor will be missed.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 600 N. Ruby St, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
