Long time Kittitas resident Robert (Bob) Junior Harmon, age 85, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of August 2, 2014, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
Bob was born and raised in Oklahoma, the youngest son of Minnie Evelyn and Robert Harmon. He came to Washington in his late teens, and farmed dairy cattle until 1957. He then worked in asphalt as a foreman and superintendent, in both Washington and Alaska, paving major highways and airports. Bob's last job before retiring was paving the airport in Juneau, Alaska, an area that he fell in love with. Bob was a retired member of Local 302, Operating Engineers.
Bob was an avid hunter and looked forward to each season for camping and hunting trips with his boys and family. He was a loving man with a big heart and shared his wisdom and love of life with many, leaving behind life lessons for all. His sense of humor was evident in his story telling, family gatherings were his favorite times, and he created many memories for us that will never be forgotten. He loved his home and took great pride in his house and yard, making sure his hedges and fruit trees were always trimmed and pruned to perfection - even climbing the trees to prune just a couple of years ago! He married the love of his life, Ida, in 1996 and created a large blended family of 12 children.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings. Brothers Roy, Coy, Eugene, Troy and Sisters Esther and Vella. He is survived by his wife Ida, and her five children; daughters Judy, Rena and Raylene, and sons Larry, Len, Dale and Justin. He leaves 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He has been entrusted to care at Steward and Williams Tribute Center in Ellensburg. At his request there will be no services and his remains have been scattered along the coastline of Juneau, Alaska.
