Eva Ruth Bertapelle was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, sister, wife, and friend. She left this world September 10, 2021 at the age of 99.9, a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Ruth was born on October 6, 1921 to Sarah and William Everard in Perkins County, South Dakota. The youngest of four children, she attended Ellingson Elementary School, a one-room schoolhouse, and high school in Hettinger, North Dakota. Her home for her first eighteen years was a sod house on the family homestead farm on the South Dakota prairie. After high school, Ruth attended business college in Missoula, Montana, where she met and married Angelo Bertapelle, her husband of forty-five years. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1950, and later to Royal Oak, Michigan. Ruth loved spending time in her garden, and devoted countless volunteer hours at her Royal Oak church, Judson Center, and Detroit Friendship House over the past sixty years. She is survived by her five children: David Bertapelle of Waterford, MI, Richard Bertapelle (Patricia) of Healdsburg, CA, Sharon Bertapelle of Pontiac, MI, Robert Bertapelle (Sheryl) of Midland, MI, and Anthony Bertapelle of Waterford, MI. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on November 6, 2021 at the Genesis Church at 309 North Main Street in Royal Oak. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Judson Center and Friendship House in memory of Ruth.
