Raymond Frederick Bean, age 91, passed away on November 21, 2021. Beloved husband to the late Patricia Bean. Loving father of Michael (Colleen) Bean, Catherine (Randall) Foss, David (Mary Kay) Bean, Lawrence (Catherine) Bean, James (Wendy) Bean, Ann Marie (Michael) Wattai and Stephen (Marci) Bean. Proud grandfather of Alexander, Amanda, Andrew, Christopher, Danielle, Erin, Elizabeth, Jasper, Matthew, Meghan, Michelle, and Patrick and of ten great-grandchildren: Asher, Caleb, Emerson, Gideon, Harrison, Ivy, James, Rosalind, Silas, and Soren. Brother of the late John Bean, James Bean and Thomas Bean.
Raymond was an accomplished architectural engineer with the firm of Eero Saarinen and for General Motors. He was on the team designing buildings and monuments on the Yale University campus, the TWA terminal at JFK airport, and the Gateway Arch in St Louis, and the US Embassy in London. As an architect and construction manager at GM Argonaut, Ray planned and built assembly plants, offices, and research facilities globally. He gave back to his community as a church volunteer, a scout leader and a library board member. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served his country in the Navy. Raymond will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Visitation Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 9:30 am until the time of funeral Mass, 10 am at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, Royal Oak. Burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Masks and social distancing are requested. Please follow Covid prevention best practices.
