John Fulkerson Obituary

FULKERSON, John John "Johnny" Datus Fulkerson, 84, of Dallas, Texas passed away October 31, 2022 The world lost a kind and gentle soul in John Fulkerson, a devoted family man and a friend to all he met. Johnny was born on August 16, 1938 to Herbert F. and Myrtle C. Fulkerson in Dallas. Johnny graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1956 and North Texas State College (UNT) in 1960. He served eight years in the Texas Air National Guard, after which he began his lifelong career in the insuring and bonds business. His career took him to Engram-Fulkerson Insurance Agency, Don Houseman Insurance, Marsh & McClennan Agency, and finally to his home with his good friend Bill Henry at McQuery and Henry in 1994 (McQuery, Henry, Bowles & Troy), where he was a Principal serving on the Board of Directors. Johnny never truly retired, as he enjoyed developing long-lasting relationships with his clients that extended well beyond business. Johnny was a long-time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, Royal Oaks Country Club, the Salesman Club of Dallas, and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers. He enjoyed cheering on the Texas Rangers, hunting with his longtime friends and spending time with the wonderful community he found in the residents and staff at Ventana. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Myrtle Fulkerson, his wife Shaaron Salyer Fulkerson of Dallas, and his grandson Hart "Seis" Green VI. He is survived by his children, Gary Fulkerson (Lisa) of Bend, Oregon, and Maggie Giust of San Antonio; his step-children, Amye Johnson (Jeff) of Boerne, Ken Salyer, Jr. (Tricia) of Dallas, and Leigh Green (Hart) of Beaumont; grandchildren, Miles Fulkerson, Max Fulkerson, Chance Fulke-rson, Madeline Pieper, Gwendolyn Giust, Tatum Johnson, Rawls Johnson, Forrest Johnson, Ken Salyer Ill (Elisha), Ashley Salyer Greene(Jimmy), Thomas Salyer, Everett Green and Adelle Green; cousins, Duane and Stonelle Kring of Mt. Selman, Texas Services will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Friday, November 18th at 10am, followed by a reception at Royal Oaks Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas or T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

Johnny and I began elementary school as first graders in John F. Peeler and went on to graduate from Adamson High School in the class of 1956. Through all those years Johnny was always kind, polite, and helpful in every way possible. I can think of absolutely no time that he ever raised his voice or said an unkind word. He will be remembered as a truly gentle soul.

May GOD bless Johnny. Sincere condolences to his family. He lived his life with lasting friendships, success in his career and a kindness of heart. How fortunate to have been a friend of his most of my life.
