KOSTOHRYZ, JR, John G. John G. Kostohryz, Jr, "Bubba", son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend, and lifelong partner passed away on November 13th, 2021, at age 50. John was born in Columbus, Ohio, on December 27th, 1970, to John and Jeanette Kostohryz and was raised in Dallas, Texas. He lived in Austin, Texas, most of his life but recently moved to Longview, Texas, with Linda Mauldin, his lifelong partner. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Grade School and Jesuit College Prep, and after graduating in 1989, John received a football scholarship from Valparaiso University. He transferred to the University of Texas, in Austin, his senior year, graduating with a degree in Criminology. John worked for the Austin Police Department as a police officer for 23 years. Among his special duties he served as a field training officer and a mental health officer and concluded his career with the violent crimes task force. John enjoyed the company of the 3 family pets, Furious, Aspen, and Romanza; interacting with his fellow police officers, golfing, and traveling. John was an avid sports fan, excelling in both football and basketball from an early age through high school and in college. He loved the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and the Dallas Mavericks. If you were to ask any of his friends, they will tell you that he was always a great listener, and once you got to know him you would say that he was genuinely loyal, extremely humorous, a detailed story teller, and compassionate and caring to everyone he knew. John is survived by his partner Linda; his parents, John and Jeanette; sister Jennifer "JK" Penwell (Josh) and their daughters Rylie and Molly; sister Jill (Jeff) Marshall and sons Jackson, Tyson, and Julien; his brother-in-law Kyle Rowe and his daughter Brinley and sons Blake and Brett; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. John was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Josephine Kostohryz; Harold and Mary Eskridge; his dear sister Julie; and beloved cousins, Kristin Kostohryz and Bobby Merritt. John's funeral will take place on Tuesday, November 23rd at St. Patrick's Catholic Church 9643 Ferndale Rd, Dallas, 75238, at 1 pm.
