SALLEY, Sarah Potter We knew her as "Gigi". Her formal name was Sarah Gaylord Gibbs Potter Salley. Gigi went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 24, 2021. She lived longer than cancer intended, but much shorter than any of her many family and friends wanted. She was a loving, devoted and unwaveringly committed wife, stepmother, daughter, and friend. Gigi was born in Dallas, Texas on December 29, 1959, to Richard and Sarah Potter. She graduated from Highland Park High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from SMU in 1982. She worked in real estate where she was named a "Top Producer" each year for more than two decades. Her many interests included the arts, countless charitable and philanthropic activities, politics, travel, and, most of all, family, and friends. With each of her interests, she was quick to make new friends, quick to offer an opinion, reluctant to back down and managed never to offend. Her travels took her around the world, but her heart and home remained always in Dallas. Gigi was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, an Idlewild debutante, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a member of Brook Hollow Golf Club, Bent Tree Country Club, The Austin Golf Club, the Woman's Club, the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Junior League and many other local clubs and social organizations. She was also very active in the community. As an eighth generation Texan and a fourth generation native of Dallas, she opened her home to support many causes. She was involved a number of charitable organizations, from Cattle Barons to Crystal Charity and many other charitable organizations. After beating cancer the first time, she co-chaired the Saint Valentine's Day luncheon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She was a firm believer in America, active and informed in political causes, and always encouraging her friends and family members to vote in every election from HPISD School Board to President of the United States. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Texas Republic and many other political and historical organizations. Gigi was compassionate and considerate while always being pragmatic. She had an immense soft spot for animals and was a supporter of many animal charities, most notably the SPCA. She was the Chairperson of Paws Cause. At home, she was always surrounded by her four King Charles Cavaliers. She was considered an "aunt" by the children of many of her friends and regularly joined them on trips and for holidays. She was cherished by them all. Gigi studied, challenged, and fought cancer with courage, dignity, and resolve, with her devoted husband by her side. Armed with her faith in Christ every step of the way, she would be the first to say that God did not leave her side for one second during any battle, including this one. While we must say goodbye, we do so knowing Gigi lived a rich life full of happiness, joy and surrounded by beauty. We also know that she is in heaven healed and pain free. She is now a resident in His kingdom forever. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Sarah Potter, her sister Regina Potter, and stepson Roy John Wesley Salley. Gigi is survived by her loving husband Roy John Salley, her stepsons Joshua Salley and wife Meghan, Jacob Salley and wife Auburn and Austin Salley and six grandchildren, her aunt Eva Morgan, her brother, Richard ("Dick") Potter, a niece, two nephews, countless devoted friends, and her puppies: Hadley, Poppy, Shelly, and Lilly. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 28th, 2021, from 12:00-2:00 PM at Sparkman Hillcrest, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021, at 4:30pm at Highland Park Presbyterian Church located at 3821 University Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75205. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Wes Salley Scholarship Fund for Parish Episcopal School of Dallas, 4101 Sigman Road, Dallas TX 75244, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75205, The Crystal Charity Ball, 3838 Oak Lawn Ave, Suite 150, Dallas, TX 75219, all organizations Gigi passionately supported.
