Mary Ann Hanson
October 13, 2024
Mary Ann was born in Greenwich Connecticut on September 26, 1930 to Pietro and Andreana Cappiali, originally of Sardinia, Italy. She was raised in the shadow of Saint Roch's Roman Catholic Church, in a home she always remembered fondly. Her hard-working, industrious parents instilled an independent work ethic in Mary Ann which she carried with her the rest of her life. When she finished her schooling she went off to New York City. She worked as an executive secretary for the Bendix Corporation, an American manufacturing and engineering company that later became Honeywell with offices in Rockefeller Center. Mary Ann loved the city and living in Manhattan. She met Albert Hanson in the city and soon after they married. She and Albert lived in NYC when they were first married and enjoyed all that NYC had to offer. When they learned they were expecting a child, they started to look in the suburbs and settled in Darien in 1971, close to Mary's family in Greenwich and within traveling distance to NYC, where Albert worked for Pfizer. They would raise their daughter Helena in Darien and they lived there happily for many years. Mary and Al enjoyed dinner groups with their friends, going to the beach, and always spending time with family.
Mary and Al were devoted to their faith as Roman Catholics and were active members of Saint John the Evangelist in Darien where they participated in bible study, were Eucharistic ministers, visited the homebound, and embraced the riches of their faith. After Al passed away, Mary stayed in Darien for some time but came to live in Pawling with Helena, her husband Mike, and her grandchildren, where she joined St. John the Evangelist/St Charles of Borromeo parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Helena Hanson Bellucci and husband Michael and her four wonderful grandchildren Michael, Paul, Thomas and Jane, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother Paul (Olive) Cappiali, and by her sisters-in-law, Cheryl Cappiali, Bonnie Cappiali, Sister Elaine Hanson and Arlene (Bill) Alexander, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Albert Hanson, parents Pietro and Andreana Cappiali, an elder brother Philip Cappiali, sister Pierina Cappiali, and brother John Cappiali.
