Mary Simms Obituary

Mary Simms passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, surrounded by members of her family. She was born on February 20th, 1931, in the Bronx, NY to Elizabeth and James Jones and grew up there. Throughout her life, Mary touched the lives of countless individuals and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary Simms was one remarkable person whose presence radiated elegance, curiosity, and an indefatigable energy. She was a devoted spouse of 62 years to Robert Simms, who passed away in 2013; and she was a loving mother to Christine Donley, Robert, and Richard. Mary is survived by her sister, Susan Callo, her children; her grandchildren, Lauren, Katie, Christopher, Jeremy, and Michael; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom meant the world to her.
Mary Simms had a lifelong passion for cooking, reading, travel, bridge, golf, everything Italian and her enthusiasm for these things was infectious. She and her husband, who was the purchasing manager for international oil company, Caltex, travelled the world with the family; starting in 1953, first in Italy, then Holland, Australia twice, and finally, England before returning stateside in 1968, to Darien for 15 years and finally making Dallas their home in 1983.
Mary Simms's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
Mary Simms's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Colorado Springs Legend and Bloom Hospice for their compassionate care during her final weeks.
The family asks that memorial tributes be made in the form of a modest contribution in Mary Simms's name to a charity of the giver's choosing.
A private remembrance will be held near Darien, CT, in the spring of 2024.
