Warren Brown Obituary

Brown, Warren S.
Warren S. Brown, age 93, died peacefully Friday August 21st at his home in Vero Beach, Florida.
Warren (Pop Pop) is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Tilda (Riddle) Brown, and three children, Skip (Laura), Mark (Sara) and Chris (Holly). He also leaves behind his nine grandchildren, William, Hunter, Douglas, Stephanie, Carson, Alex, C.H., Carrington and Campbell.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Warren was a true southern gentleman. He attended Baton Rouge High School (class of 1938) and later Louisiana State University and Louisiana College where he got his bachelor's degree with a major in economics. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII where he served as a Lieutenant (j.g.). He captained a landing craft tank (LCT) on the D-Day landing at Easy Red Beach and later led the 1st day landing on Wakayama, Japan.
At the end of the war, he moved to New York City to begin a successful publishing career at Esquire Magazine, GQ, Doubleday & Company and Research Institute of America (acquired by Thompson Reuters).
After being a bachelor for many years, he finally met the love of his life, Tilda. Soon after they married, they moved to the suburbs of Darien, Connecticut to raise a family. He was a member of Wee Burn Country Club, Royal Poinciana Golf Club and John's Island Club.
Warren's favorite pastimes were the arts, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He looked forward to his Friday lunches with his friends at the John's Island R.O.M.E.O. Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out), where he was one of the founding members.
A private memorial will be held at the Oak Harbor Club in Vero Beach, Florida.
