William Christie Obituary

William Edward Christie Sr, a former longtime Darienite and resident of The Greens at Cannondale in Wilton, died on Aug 10 He was 88

He was born on April 22, 1924 in Stamford to the late William M Christie and Grace Marshall Christie In addition to Darien, Mr Christie also lived in Monroe, Newtown and Trumbull

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Janet Lawson Christie, his children, William EChristie Jr of Stamford; June M Postolowski of Guilford;  Janet C Samperi of Monroe and Joyce C Styslinger of Fairfield

Mr Christie is also survived by his son-in-law, Peter J Samperi of Monroe, his grandchildren, Jason W Christie of Stamford; Lindsey E Christie of Los Angeles, Calif; Kimberly J Styslinger of Stamford and Carrie L Samperi of West Hartford Also, he is survived by one niece and three nephews In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace C Wasserlein and Alberta C Stevens

Mr Christie served in the US Army during World War II with the 11th Traffic Regulation Group from 1944-1946 He was a plumbing and heating contractor, owning his own business until his retirement in 1985 During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at his homes in Woodford, Vt and Barefoot Bay, Fla

Mr Christie's interests were snowmobiling, fishing, camping with friends, listening to country and organ music and playing the organ He especially liked the artwork of Thomas Kinkade, "The Painter of Light"

A graveside funeral service will be held at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford  on Thursday, Aug 16, at 11 am
