Alice AUSTIN Obituary

AUSTIN, Alice Grace Bloodsaw Age 96 died July 19, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. She was the fourth child of the union of the late Rev. Earl B. and Mollie Stone Bloodsaw, born on April 16, 1922 in Monroe, GA, where she graduated from Thompson School. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Spring Hill AME Zion Church, Monroe, GA. She married Grady Austin in 1940; moved to Middletown, OH in 1943 and then to Dayton, Ohio, where she resided 75 years. She joined the St. Paul AME Zion Church, Dayton, OH in 1945, where she served as a faithful member in many positions until her death. Alice worked at the Dayton VA Hospital 30 years; received a BS Degree in Elementary Education, Central State Univ.,Wilberforce, OH, 1975, and taught in the Dayton Public Schools system. She was an elected member of the S.W. Dayton Model Cities Priority Board; Life Member of the NAACP and served on the Dayton Branch Board of Directors; Weaver Elementary School PTA and the Central State Univ. National Mother's Club. Preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, John W. and Leonie Keeton Bloodsaw; sister and brother-in law, Lottie Ruth and Stokes McGuire; sister, Lois Bloodsaw Harrison and son and daughter-in-law, Earl G. and Sandra Unseld Austin. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rev./Attorney Richard and Noelia Austin, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; granddaughters, Courtney Andrea (Robin) Thompson, St. Louis, MO; Stephanie Kate (Ricardo) Williams, Chicago, IL and Alison Estelle Austin, Chicago, IL; grandsons, Earl Grady (Judy) Austin, Jr., St. Louis, MO; Richard Unseld Austin, Dallas, TX; great granddaughters, Sydney Maxine Jackson, Chicago, IL; Avery Juanelle Austin, St. Louis, MO; great grandsons, Robin Charles Thompson, Austin James Thompson, Sean Tracy Thompson, Richard Unseld Austin, Jr., St. Louis, MO. Nieces, Mary Alice Gant, Lois P. McGuire, Monica D. Sumerlin, Dayton, OH and Angelea V. (Gregory) Anderson, Marietta, GA.; Nephews, William (Diane) Bloodsaw, Shaker Heights, OH and Eric R. (Phyllis) Harrison, Dayton, OH; faithful and extended family Tonia (Larry) Quincy, Yvette Howard, Sarina McGuire, Julia Stokes, Dayton, OH and Kay and Earl English, Detroit, MI and a host of other loving family members and friends. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., MONDAY, July 30, 2018 at ST. PAUL AME ZION CHURCH, 4544 Laurel Dr., (Residence Park) Dayton, OH, Pastor Lawrence E. Spann, officiating; Eulogist, Rev. Richard Austin, Esq., Retired Pastor, Beulah AME Zion Church, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Interment: West Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
