Dale Creech Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

CREECH, Dale E. Sr. "Irresistible" Entered this life on October 15, 1927 and departed on Thursday, February 28, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Creech and lived all his life as a proud Daytonian. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Edna Mae (Mercer) Creech, son Dale Jr. and his wife Carolyn, daughter Ginger and her husband Jim Gravell, 4 loving grandchildren (Justin Hill, Ashley, Jon and Miranda Creech), sister Geraldine Caplinger, extended grandchildren and spouses Joey and Chay Gravell and Anto and Jennifer Mendoza, three great grandchildren Jacob Gravell and twins Isabel and Victoria Mendoza, several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous for space to accommodate. Dale graduated from Dixie High School, New Lebanon, where he excelled at many sports and General Motors Institute of Technology in Flint, Michigan, which had one of the most rigorous engineering programs in the Country at the time, where he honed his sharp mental faculties. He devoted his professional life as a civilian engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, working extensively on the design of landing gear and brake systems for many famous military aircraft, including the B-70 and the B-2 stealth bomber. He was a consummate professional, meticulous about his work and justifiably proud of his accomplishments in the defense of his Country. He had two departing wishes - that he pass peacefully at home and that there be no funeral arrangements other than a Memorial gathering of the immediate family. Those friends wishing to contribute to Dale's memory may make a donation in his name to the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation or Hospice of Dayton. Dale was a loving person who touched many lives and will be missed by all.

When I joined the B-2 program in 1983, Dale was the second or third person I met and one of the small cadre then working full time in the SPO. Dale took me under his wing and went to great lengths to bring me up to speed on what was going on. He was a consummate engineer and could be counted on to teach a good landing gear lesson at the slightest opening. I loved it. And I learned everything I know about landing gear from Dale. It was a great privilege to know him and count him as a friend.

I worked closely with Dale on the B-2 program. He was an outstanding engineer and an even better person. His contributions went beyond the fact that he was one of the world's true experts in his field--he was sought as well for his sound counsel. We have lost a good man.

Dale, I only remember you as I was so very little the last time I seen you. I know you will forever hold a special place in Grandma Gerry's heart. My prayers are with your family and know that they will all have happy memories of you. May you forever rest in peace.
