David HOAGLAND Obituary

HOAGLAND, Reverend David Allen 80, of Springfield went home to be with his Lord on March 4, 2017 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born October 19, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Johnny Howard and Gladys Ruth (Frederick) Hoagland. He was a veteran of the National Guard and served our country proudly. David worked factory jobs at SPECO and Navistar and received his calling to go into ministry. He served in the ministry for 23 years where he pastored at Nazarene Churches in Walbridge, Ohio, Willshire, Ohio, Union City, Indiana, Jackson Center, Ohio and Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Springfield. David also served on the building programs for the Church of the Nazarene NWO District. He was known as Mr. "Fix It", enjoyed gardening, his family and managing his rental properties. Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty-nine and a half years, Martha J. (Roberts) Hoagland; one daughter, Melissa (Randall) Smith of Springfield; five sons, Douglas (Joyce) Hoagland of Springfield, William "Russ" (Janice) Hoagland of Springfield, Jonathan (Dorothy) Hoagland of Grover Hill, Ohio, Mark Hoagland of Springfield and David (Susan) Wilson of Farmer City, Illinois; one sister, Ruth Shafer of Lancaster, Ohio; two brothers, Francis Hoagland of Ottawa, Kansas and Harvey (Olive) Hoagland of Grove City, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, Doug II, Tim, Tammy, David, Annie, Jessica, Erin, Kirstina, Lane, Emily, Drew, Jehane, Bethany, Bekah and Fred; 14 great-grandchildren, Doug III, Elizabeth, Mike, Adriana, Emma, Arturo, Dominga, Alex, Kailee, Monica, Yoselin, Lucinda, Alexis and Olivia and numerous nieces and nephews. The Hoaglands foster parented 34 children through the Clark County Human Services. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 5-8 pm in the High Street Church of the Nazarene, 1625 E High St, Springfield. A celebration of David's life will be held on Thursday at 11 am in the church with Pastor Marty Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery. David's life verse was Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
