Family-Placed Obituary


POWELL, Dr. David L. Jr. was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, to David Lee Powell and Emma (Henderson) Powell. He died on April 13, 2006 in Sugar Land, Texas. He attended the Howard University College of Dentistry, receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1963. Dr. Powell then entered the United States Air Force as a Dental Officer, at the rank of Captain. He earned an M.S. degree in endodontics at The Ohio State University in 1971. In 1975, after 12 years of military service, Lieutenant Colonel Powell resigned from the Air Force to enter private practice in Kettering, Ohio where he retired in June 2001. Dr. Powell was an active member of the Dayton Dental Society, also a member of the Gem City Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Society. Dr. Powell is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jean; his brothers, Jimmie and Roy; his children, Paul, Mark, Melanie and Peter; his grandson, Jason; his daughter-in-law, LaDonna and grandchildren, Taylor and Herbert Malcolm Campbell IV. Viewing will be held Friday, April 21, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 149 Calvary Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45409. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dr. Powell's memory to the American Cancer Society. Services Respectfully Rendered by H.H. Roberts.
