SKAPIN, Edward Anton 95, a resident of the Springfield Masonic Community, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 29, 1924, the son of the late Anton and Kristina (Mastnak) Skapin. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, having flown 30 missions as a B-17 Aerial Gunner in the European Theater with the 100th Bomb Group. His service earned him several medals and commendations, including 6 bronze battle stars, multiple Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired as a manufacturing engineer from Reliance Electric & Engineering (Rockwell) following many years of dedicated service. Ed was a member of the Euclid Veterans Club, Civil Air Patrol, and Covenant Lodge #683 F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Louisa (Bezek) Skapin; four children, Larry (Sandra) Skapin of Beavercreek, OH, Jeffrey (Dawna) Skapin of Kent, OH, Gregory (Susan) Skapin of Kirtland, OH, and Lucinda "Cindy" (Kenneth) Soltesz of W. Palm Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Debra Flood; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Skapin and sister, Vida Mytro. A service in celebration of Ed's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Wooley Chapel at the Springfield Masonic Community. Military honors will follow, provided by the WPAFB Honor Guard.
