I would be remiss not sending my best to the family. My father in law and mother in law, George and Toni Agnos, who owned the Hitching Post, his daughter who was my wife all cared deeply about Gene. I played with Gene a few times and he would always greet me with a smile, calling me brother. I still miss him and even though Katie's parents have gone, we still listen to his music and talk about the old times. My condolences to the family of Gene's and as the old Greeks always say, Bless and Save him...gp

The family still listens to your records. We miss you and all of the Greek families from the Hitching Post.

Rather late condolences for all those who knew Gene Mayl. Sorry for your loss. He was an amazing person. Gene and his Rhythm Kings played at my 11th birthday party in our back yard at 329 Northview Road which is where we met. I remain a fan of his music to this day, although at the time I was more occupied with Bill Haley and the Comets. Then Armstrong came to town and I finally got the Dixieland and classic jazz message. Years later, as "Tom Bodean" I am still playing old school jazz and blues here in Albuquerque, thanks to Gene and Satch.

Wish the folks who really knew him well who are still around would write a book about his life and music. Those of us from the Buckeye state can be proud that one of our guys made it and still stuck around home.

Bravo Gene!

Was just talking with my mom about Gene, and I looked him up and found he had passed. My mom and dad saw him many times and always talked about him a lot. Their first date they saw him play. He will be missed greatly.

VWe were saddened to hear from Eddie Bayard, that Gene Mayl had passed. Though I had not seen Gene in many years, it brings a smile to my face to remember some of the pickup gigs I played with him.

I always enjoyed working with Gene Mayl, and enjoyed listening to recordings of his D.R.K. He was an excellent musician and bandleader and told me some of the most interesting stories imaginable concerning the musicians he had met and worked with over the years.
He will be missed.

Gene Mayl was a great musician & band leader with his DRK. I had the pleasure working gigs with Gene in Dayton & on the road.
I always mad it a point to visit Gene at Trader Joe's every time I came to Ohio to visit my sons and my grand children. I talked to
Gene just a couple of weeks ago and he was always cheerful on the phone. He will be missed. Eddie Bayard

I was saddened to learn of Gene's passing. He introduced me to a great vista of places and people when I played trombone with him over the years. He was unique and I don't think there will ever be another like him Oh Didn't He Ramble

My Father is Eddie Bayard, and I provided the information on Gene's passing to him. I know that each time my father came to Ohio from New Orleans that one of his primary things to do was to visit Gene during his stay, whether at Christmas time or during one of his summer visits. My Father and Gene went back a ways with their love of Dixieland music. I know he will dearly miss his friend, and I am sure that he will follow my condolences with his own soon. Our condolences to all of Gene's family and friends for this loss...God bless. Gary Bayard
