News Death Notice

COVEY, Grace Margaret "Maggie" (Swink) March 5, 1948 - May 17, 2014 Maggie Covey passed away peacefully May 17th surrounded by family while visiting in Pocatello, Idaho. Maggie was the only child born to Josephine Rodriguez and Harold Swink in Vallejo, CA. She was raised in Dayton, OH by her paternal grandparents and graduated from Paterson Co-Op High School in 1966. She married her high school sweetheart, David Covey and together they had three children, David Jr., Lisa and Christopher. Maggie and David moved from Dayton and eventually settled in Graniteville, Vermont in 1975. When Maggie and David divorced in 1980, she returned to Dayton. Her artistry traversed quilting, spinning wool, embroidering, knitting, sewing and beading. She took great joy in making many beautiful pieces for family and friends. She was a proud member of the Dayton Knitting Guild and considered many of the people there family. Maggie is survived by her companion, Vickie Grabill. They lived happily together for 23 years sharing pets, a home, garden and lots of love. Maggie is survived by her three children; David Jr. (Anne) Covey, Lisa (Rikke) Covey and Christopher (Kathy) Covey; thirteen grandchildren, David III, Tyler, Courtney, Madison, Conner, Alyssa, Kyle, Dallin, Jessie, Porter, Katie, Truxton and Aksel Covey and many friends. A memorial will be held on July 18th at 11:00am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 901 East Whipp Rd., Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dayton Knitting Guild (daytonknittingguild.com are welcomed. A scholarship fund has been established in Maggie's name.
