DAHLINGHAUS, Harold "Harry" A. Age 91 of Minster, Ohio died on Friday July 3 , 2015 at Elmwood Assisted Living New Bremen. He was born on May 30, 1924 in St. Rosa, Ohio to the late Henry J. & Rosa A. (Bohman) Dahlinghaus. On May 22, 1954 he married Phyllis J. Deitrick in Celina, Ohio. She survives in New Bremen, Ohio. He is also survived by children: Douglas & Jenni Dahlinghaus, Minster, Susan Massie, Fairborn, Ohio, Gregory Dahlinghaus, Las Vegas, Nevada, 5 grandchildren Abby, Lauren, Kyle, Taylor & Morgan, 2 great grandchildren, Braylon & Grayson and sister Rosella Sdao. Ottawa, Ohio. He was preceded in death by brothers & sisters, Cyril, Ivo, Rita McRae, Esther Bruns, Paul, Marie Studer, Dorothy Bertke, Palma and Gerald, brother-in-law Charles Deitrick. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a member of the Minster American Legion Post #387. He was also past board member & life member of the Minster Civic Association, past board member & past president of the Minster Business Association, 1st board member of the Minster Zoning Committee. Harry was employed for 20years at EF Westerheide Ford Sales, then from 1963 to 1990 as owner operator of Dahlinghaus Garage & Auto Sales and from 1990 to present at Dahlinghaus Auto Sales & Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster with Rev. Rick Nieberding celebrant. Burial will take place with full military honors by the Minster Firing Squad in St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Memorial donations may be made to Grand Lake Hospice. Condolences may be made at www.hogenkampfh.com.

Harry was a good man. He was one of the most honest businessman in Minster. Harry always did things the right way for people. I could always stop at the garage and count on having a few good laughs. Prayers and condolences to the Dahlinghaus Family, you can be very proud of Dad. He will be missed.

Yesterday I googled my grandfather's name for the first time. The only thing that showed up was this page. Nothing about his americana life growing up on a farm. Nothing of his service to his country. Nothing of him raising an all American family in an all American city. Nothing of him running a business. Nothing of him serving the community. It speaks to who he was that a man that accomplished and did so many things in his life would only have one little page on this vast internet and that it would really be not for him but for all of us, just like him. I never saw Grandpa in a shirt without a collar. Even when it became difficult, Grandpa always stood up to say goodbye to us. He is the most humble man I have ever met, and with far less reason than most of us to be. I doubt I'll ever meet another man like him because the time for men like him has long passed. If there is a such thing as a "right" way to live your life, I think Grandpa certainly resembles that. If I can manage to live half as right as he did, I'll live better than most. I probably can because I had a damn good example.

Prayers and condolences to the family of Harry Dahlinghaus. My dad (Norb Vanderhorst) bought cars and had our cars service at the garage for many years and he always spoke very highly of Harry. He was always very helpful and friendly.
