News Death Notice

WINKLE, J. Howard 89, died at his home in Newark, OH on Sunday, July 6, 2008. He was born August 26, 1918 in Broadway, OH. A 49 year resident of Urbana until January of 2008, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wanda Lockwood Musser, his son David (Jane) Winkle of Granville, OH and children Dr. Jon B (Janet) Musser of Granville, OH and Brenda Musser-Castino of Framingham, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Kerrie (Eric) Winkle Matesich of Blacklick, OH, Allie Castino of New York City, Lori (Jamie) Musser Dennis of Nokesville, VA; Jay Musser of Columbus, OH and Stefan Castino, who is currently stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Margaret (Detwiler) Winkle, brother George and his first wife Fearn Marie Brelsford. A graduate of Northwestern High School (Broadway/Raymond, OH) in 1936, Howard retired as Division Manager and Legislative Liaison from Dayton Power and Light in 1981. An active member of the Champaign County community, he held many leadership positions in the following groups and organizations: Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Community Improvement Corporation of Champaign County, Urbana Country Club, Urbana College Esquire Club, Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Ohio, Champaign Co. Republican Party, and the was a founding director of the Transportation Research Board of Ohio. He was also an active member of the Urbana United Methodist Church. Friends and family will be received at the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 642 South Main Street, Urbana, OH on Friday, July 11 from 10 am-12pm with services to follow. Internment will be at the cemetery in Broadway, OH. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Hospice of Central Ohio and request that in lieu of flowers contributions in Howard's memory may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd., Newark, OH 43055.
