McCARTHY, James Patrick 40, a Deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, died in a single car accident April 1, 2017 in San Bernardino County, CA. He was a Deputy Sheriff with Riverside County for 10 years and previously worked in law enforcement in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas; as a Security Officer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, CA; and as a Corrections Officer with Juvenile Division in Orange County, CA. A member of Church on the Hill, Redlands, CA, he was devoted to community service and his Christian faith. A classic car enthusiast, his pride and joy was his Shelby GT 500 KR Mustang; he was a lifetime collector of stamps, coins and G.I. Joe action figures. James, who maintained a home in Beaumont, CA, moved to Southern California with his mother and sister in 1980. He was a recent graduate of Union Institute and University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Management. He briefly attended Simpson University in Redding, CA. He was a 1995 graduate from Los Alamitos High School, where he enjoyed water polo, the diving team, and jazz band; he also attended McAuliffe Middle School, Grace Christian School, and Southern California Military Academy, and was a member of Civil Air Patrol at Los Alamitos JFTB. Survived by his mother Mary Kay (Foster, McCarthy) Watson and step-father Lawrence P. Watson; father Kenneth I. McCarthy and step-mother Martie McCarthy; sister Rose Marie (Prichard) Kimbell and husband GySgt. Laurens Kimbell, niece GraceLynne M. Kimbell, nephew Challen J. Kimbell; brother Andrew P. Watson; aunt Anne M. Foster; uncles Jerry F. Foster, Mark S. Foster, Greg B. Foster, Frances F. McCarthy, Thomas R. McCarthy, Donald M. McCarthy, Robert M. McCarthy, John D. McCarthy, Paul B. McCarthy; extended family Aunt C. Lynne Worthy, Dallas (Worthy) Mintz, Blake Worthy. A loving Son, Brother, Nephew and Friend who will be dearly missed.
