News Death Notice

CASSELL, Jesse J. Age 94 of Greenville, formerly of West Milton passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville. He was born December 6, 1921 in Union Twp. to the late Howard S. and Mary E. (Wenger) Cassell. He is survived by his daughters Sonia Kay Cassell (Sandy Sheets) - Indianapolis, IN., Patricia Sue (Rick) Weaver - Jacksonville, FL, son Edwin Ray Cassell (Candy Flattery) - Plainfield, IN, 2 grandchildren Mark L. Hinkle - San Francisco, CA and Benjamin E. Hinkle (Emilie Woodbridge) and 3 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Samuel, and Santiago-Tallahassee, FL, sister Norma Catherine Helstern - Union, OH., and beloved companion Iris Bolen. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Esther Shanck Cassell, brothers Donald, Bernis, Russell, Merlin and Harley Cassell, and sister Lois Evelyn Mergler. Jesse was a 1940 graduate of Milton - Union High School, was a longtime member since 1944 of Potsdam Church of the Brethren where he held various board positions. He was formerly employed at Milton - Union Schools, Willis Cripe Elevator, Faulkner Burke Elevator, B.F. Goodrich, N.C.R., Hobart Mfg., and Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home as well as other local businesses. He was also a former member of Potsdam Town Council and Mayor of Potsdam. He was a longtime resident of the Brethren Retirement Community where he enjoyed biking, playing pool and helping others. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, 22 E. Cross Street, Potsdam with Chaplain Todd Reish officiating. Burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, Clayton. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Hale -Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami Street, West Milton. If so desired, contributions may be made to Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund, 750 Chestnut Circle, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
