John BART Obituary

News Death Notice

BART, John A. 73, of Palm Desert, CA passed away on March 9, 2016. John was born in Chicago, IL on November 24, 1942. He moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1957 after his freshman year in high school, and graduated from Chaminade High School, class of 1960. He went on to the University of Dayton and graduated in the class of 1965. His affinity for California lured him out west where he eventually settled in 1970, and then put down roots with his wife, Charlotte, in Huntington Beach where they raised their two children. John spent his later years in the heart of Palm Desert as a devout parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sundays (and Cactus Jack's on Fridays). Those who knew John, knew that he was a man of great faith who loved his family, loved cooking, and loved to debate politics and sports. He was an inspired businessman whose entrepreneurial spirit led him to diverse careers in mortgage finance, restaurants and food service, bottled water, billiard tables, as well as volunteer work at an Alzheimers center. A skilled wordsmith, he cherished his challenging NY Times Crossword puzzles, and devoted himself to daily email correspondence with his vast network of friends across the country. John will be remembered for his big heart, passion for life, and corny jokes. Survived by his son Jeremy Bart, daughter Janella Hurrell, two grandsons, GavinBart and Brock Hurrell, as well as his five sisters, Brenda Gilliver, Elaine Pauley, Kathy Unverferth, Patti Sandquist, Janice Spartichino, and numerous nieces and nephews.
