DO, FAAFP, FAAFS 92, formerly of Fairborn, OH, most recently Arvada, CO, died quietly February 22, 2016, at a rehab facility in Denver, after struggling to recover from an accident. Krause was born May 29, 1923, in Cincinnati, to Vadna Lindsey and Albert Krause. Krause is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois; his sister, Virginia Hess; six children, Paula Dalton, Justin Krause, Sue Krause, Jane Krause, Patti Krause, and Matthew Krause; seven grandchildren, Tony Dalton, Patrick Espy, Traci Dalton, Harry Walters, Joe Franzino, Paige Young, and Lincoln Krause; four great grandchildren, Tony Dalton, Renee Foster, Elle and Ivan Espy; one great great grandchild, Sophie Dalton, and other family including a nephew and nieces. Krause was preceded in death by first wife, Glenna Krause. Raised in New Carlisle, OH, Krause, nicknamed Jake, embarked on a lifelong interest in medicine after receiving a microscope at age 9. A World War II veteran, serving as a medic in the 95th Infantry Division, US Army where he earned a bronze star. He attended Miami Univ., Carnegie Mellon Univ., Univ. of Cincinnati, and the Univ. of Health Sciences at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, graduating in 1950 as Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. A beloved family doctor in Fairborn, from 1951-89, Krause served as Greene County Coroner from 1965-89, holding the distinction of being the first Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine to be appointed at Greene Memorial Hospital. Proactively advocating for his patients, Krause established one of the first chemical dependency centers in OH. As Clinical Professor at Wright State Univ., he inspired his students with his knowledge, experience, ethics, love of humanity, and accounts of 1000+ baby deliveries. As Chief of Staff at Greene Memorial Hospital, he spent 72 continuous hours caring for victims of the 1974 Xenia tornado. Licensed to practice medicine in OH, PA, MO, WI, and CO, his board certifications were Am. Board of Family Practice; Am. Board of Osteopathic General Practice; and board eligible for Additional Qualification in Geriatrics, for ABFP and ABOGP. In 1989, at 65, Krause did a Geriatric Fellowship at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was honored with the AMA Physician Recognition Award. He was a Fellow in the Am. Academy of Family Practice and Am. Academy of Forensic Science. He was a member of the AMA, AAFP, AAFS, AOA, Am. Geriatric Society, Greene County Medical Society, Past President; OH State Coroners Assn., Past President and Board of Trustees; and the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab, Board of Trustees. Krause earned more than 4,000 documented Continuing Medical Education credits. He was proud to have been the first Democrat elected Coroner in Greene County. He had many friends in the law enforcement community, and as Coroner, he always felt you could learn from the deceased to help the living. He loved his dear pets, traveling, photography, fishing, swimming, boating, eating Cincinnati Chili, biographies, practicing medicine, and helping others in need. He was a lifelong sports fan and loved big band music and jazz. As lead saxophone, starting his own band in high school, he still danced to Glenn Miller later in life. Family, friends, and communities will remember Krause as a loving husband, father, friend, and an exceptionally kind, compassionate, gifted physician. While a consummate professional, everyone recalls Jake's wit and old stale one-liners. My sincere condolences to the Krause family. I still remember seeing Dr. Krause as a child. I had strep throat and I told him my ears hurt and he said, "We'll just cut those off so they don't bother you anymore!" Even though I was very sick, he still made me laugh! He was one of a kind and leaves behind a legacy in Fairborn!

I was so sad to hear of Dr. Krause's passing. He delivered me back in the day when GP's delivered the babies in the practice. My Mom told me he stayed with her the whole night through her entire labor, holding her hand. She also said he took her home calls when she had worries about sick children and didnt complain once, lol. He truly was a caring physician and went beyond the call of duty. It seemed personal with him. I cant even imagine that kind of care in this day and time. He saw me as a patient until the day he left his Fairborn practice. Mom and I still laugh about him "squeaking" and pinching my nose until I was a large child...telling me how pretty I was. Ill always remember him fondly. His family can truly be proud of him and his service to the Fairborn community.

My condolences to the entire Krause family. Dr. Krause was one of those people who made Fairborn a great place to grow up. He was one of my two favorite doctors while growing up. Always had a great bedside manner and he loved to tease me about a few things as a kid.
