Melissa ZUNIS Obituary

ZUNIS, Melissa K. Our valentine lost her brave struggle with Alzheimer's on May 19, 2018 in Springfield. Melissa K. Zunis, 71, a graduate of Northwestern High School and Miami University, brightened the lives of family, friends and acquaintances with her generosity and wit. For many years she taught elementary art in the Cincinnati school system. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include siblings Kaye (Toni) Sprenzel of Neuburg, Germany, Sara Mintz of Wincanton, England, Bill (Jane) Krafft of Springfield, John (Sonya Montana) Krafft of Hamilton, and Gretchen Krafft of Springfield, nieces Karoline Fahnenschmidt, Antonie Arnold and Sarah Schoder, nephew Will Krafft, step-mother Virgil Krafft, friends Eileen Arnold and Don LeValley. She was preceded in death by her parents, June and Fritz Krafft, brother-in-law Mark Mintz, sister-in-law Sharon Krafft, and husbands Clifford Parrett and Demos ("Mike") Zunis. The family wishes to thank the staff of Forest Glen and Dr. Dudney for many years of care. For memorial contributions we suggest the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or the American Diabetes Association, Post Office Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215. Melissa loved to laugh, sing and draw. She won art contests in 1953 and sixty years later in 2013. She donated her body to Wright State Medical School in hopes of finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. Private memorial planned.

I was saddened to learn Melissa had passed away. We new each other as kids. She was lively, fun and beautiful. She was my first "crush" and I was happy just to be near her.
