Family-Placed Obituary


JOHNSON, Mildred Keller Age 92, of Dayton departed this life on Tuesday, December 27, 2005. She was an Elementary School Teacher and Learning Resource Teacher for Dayton Public Schools for over 20 years. Mrs. Johnson was a (Magna cum Laude) graduate of West Virginia State University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Languages. She held a Masters in Elementary School Education, an Associates Degree in Library Science and a 75+ year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where she served many years as an officer in her local chapter. Because of her passionate interest in the development of young people, she served as an advisor to the Del-teens, formerly called TID's. She was a passionate and creative educator, introducing foreign language to second graders at Wogaman Elementary School. She became a world traveler to inspire her students, often accompanying High School Spanish Students on advanced study trips in Europe and Africa. Before entering teaching, she worked at the Dayton Public Library and later as a strategic stenographer for the Armed Forces during WWII. She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church for many years, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Young People's Advisor. Mildred also attended Christ Cathedral and was a lover of music and loved to sing, dance and play the organ. She was married 46 years to her beloved late husband, William Howard. She was the adored mother to her daughter, Elva (Ejaye Tracey) Robinson of NYC; and sons, William Jr. (Juanita) retired Manager of Housing and Neighborhood Development for the City of Dayton, Ohio and Charles S. Johnson (Berniece) of Troy, OH; she was the cherished "Nana" to her grandchildren, Sherman Tod Robinson, William Johnson III, of Dayton, OH; Tina Robinson and Traci Robinson-Greene, both of NY; Sheila Johnson-Magee of Laurel, MD; Charles Johnson Jr. of Randallstown, MD; Charmaine Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Jason Johnson of Columbus, OH; Jeffrey Johnson of Denver, CO; nephews, Orval (Connie) Brown of Indianapolis, IN and Richard (Sarah) Johnson of Chambersburg, PA; and a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Woodland Mausoleum Chapel, 118 Woodland Ave., with Dr. Leon Stutzman, officiating. Viewing 9:00 A.M. Tuesday; the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Entombment, Woodland Mausoleum. Arrangements entrusted to THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave.
