Nick NICHOLAS Obituary
News Death Notice
NICHOLAS, Nick G. Age 81, of Dayton & Siesta Key, Florida, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Kettering Medical Center. A retired administrator in the Dayton Public School system, Nick was a 1952 graduate of Roosevelt High School, where he was an All-Ohio basketball player and served as class president. He attended the University of Cincinnati on a basketball scholarship, playing on both the Bearcat basketball and baseball teams, and completed his Bachelors of Arts in 1956, before earning his Masters in Education Administration from Xavier University. Nick was a longtime member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, served on the Parish Council, and was a member of the choir. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Chrisanthi. Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Charlene; his son & daughter-in-law, George & Tessa Nicholas of Carrboro, NC; his daughter & son-in-law, Chryssa & Tom Hartnett of Canton, OH; his sister & brother-in-law, Maria & Greg Caras of Dayton, OH; his sister, Marcina Hadjis of Temecula, CA; his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Dick & Janice Johnson of Blountville, TN; grandchildren, Julia, Laynie, Allie, & Niko; numerous nieces & nephews; and many other relatives & friends. Funeral service 12 Noon Monday, December 21, 2015 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North with Father Mark P. Emroll officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Marker & Heller Funeral Home, North Main St. Chapel, 1706 North Main St. from 3-6 PM Sunday, December 20, 2015 with Trisagion Prayers at 4:30 PM. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund in Nick's memory.

Mr. Nick was a great gym teacher and coach to all of us at Belmont Elementary in those early days of his career. He always had time for his students. He had a big impact on a lot of kids, including me. I was very sad to hear of his passing.

NICK was my friend since he arrived at RHS. For our Class he was our President and all around best example. He was what every man wanted to be: a leader, scholar, athlete, and popular. After our graduation in '52 it was common for many of us going forward to try to "Be Like Nick". We all know he was a good son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. CHARLENE, we are glad you had him for 53 years. He was a Great Man!

We've lost a good friend who brought joy to everyone he met. I will only remember all the good times we had ; Sigma Chi, Spring break in Ft. Lauderdale, golf at Miami Valley. Nick always brightened the day no matter the activity. These will always be our memories of Nick.

Dear Charlene and Family,
Oh! How I wish that I could be with you to pay tribute to Nick, one of the most caring men that I have ever known. I have been remembering him and thinking of you since I heard of his passing. He took on the leadership of our RHS Class of 1952 as his resonsiblility for the rest of his life. He kept us close to his heart, and us to each other. Did you know that when you married him that you would be sharing him with all of us? Thank you so very much. God bless you and bring you comfort.

As a high schooler in the choir of the Greek Orthodox Church in the 60's, was in awe of Nick. He was the friendliest, kindest, nicest person to us "youngsters" in the choir and I have never forgotten him! May his memory be eternal. Mary Michaelson Lee

Nick has a special place in the hearts of everyone from the RHS Class of 1952! Little did he know that becoming class president was a lifetime commitment which he carried on triumphantly! We admired, respected and loved him. He is missed so much but we know he is in the presence of God. My heartfelt sympathy to Charlene and the family. Mr. Nicholas was my PE teacher in the early 60's at Belmont Elementary. I loved his enthusiasm and love for teaching. May God give peace and comfort to all his family.
