News Death Notice

BARKER, Olious Estes "Billy" Age 80 departed this life on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Sycamore Hospital. Born in Jefferson City, TN, he was a lifelong resident of Dayton. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1955. Billy attended Florida A&M University. He was an employee of Chrysler, from which he retired after 30 years of service. Although Episcopalian, Billy attended Church of the Ressurection (renamed St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church). An all-around athlete, Billy played basketball, baseball, and was a standout football player in high school and college. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wille E. "Jap" and Gladys Barker; his best friend and wife of 55 years, LaVonne; and his sisters, Dorothy (Rice) Walker and Rosemary Blasingame. He leaves to cherish his memory six sons: Eric (Teri), Timothy, Shawn, Damian, Darien and Olious "Keir" Barker, two brothers William Leonard (Beverly) Barker and Frank Anthony "Tony" (Carolyn) Barker; two in-laws, Doris Daugherty and Clark Richard Taylor, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives, and two close friends, Charlie Patterson and Herman Byrd. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2016, at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Avenue, Trotwood, Ohio.
