Not sure what to say?

December 17, 2013

I learned of Ken's passing on December 12, 2013. It was a shock to me and I was very saddened. My wife and I stopped by to say Hi to Ken in Huber heights, on July 12, on our way back home in South Carolina, from visiting our son in Allen Park and close friends in Brighton, Michigan. It was early evening and the house was dark. I left a message on the door, next to one a contractor had left. I tried contacting Ken several times after that by Email. I had no reply, which caused me some concern. Finally, I put Ken's name in a Google search and learned the reason. I was best man at Ken and Kathleen's wedding and Ken reciprocated at my wedding in September, 1957. Shortly after that we stopped to see Ken on our way to Alexandria, VA, where I was living while serving in the Navy. Ken and I worked together one summer, circa 1955, doing electrical and plumbing for Lewis Electric in Cloverdale, MI. He and I became close friends. Over the years we communicated by Email on a monthly basis. Since my wife and I had family in Michigan and we lived in Brighton MI and South Carolina since 1997, we passed through Dayton at least once a year. Ken encouraged me to stop by on our way back and forth, but when we finally did...it was too late. I feel so sorry about that. The last contact I had with Ken was last year and he said he was feeling well except for COPD, from smoking so many years. He also said he was using SKYPE to communicate with Tom and Trina.

Trina, if you should happen to read this entry, I would appreciate you contacting me. My Email address is [email protected].

My thoughts and Prayers are with Ken, and Kathleen during this sad time. They were both loving and precious friends.

Ken Ricker was by far the kindest, most gentle and soft spoken man I have ever known. After living next door to the Rickers for 28 years, I never ever saw Ken get mad or upset at anything or anyone! I do have to say, though, I really never talked to Ken until after his beloved Kathleen passed away. She always spoke for both of them! Before we lost Kathleen and Sam (my husband) we had MANY porch meetings, dinners and parties and always laughed and solved all the problems of the world. Not to mention how many times we just ran next door to borrow something. When I became a widow, Ken was always there for me - no matter what. I just hope I offered the same to him. I am so privileged to be able to say this sweet man was my "very good friend".
