News Death Notice

HERRING, Raymond age 84, of Dayton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011. He was the eldest of five children born to the late Thomas and Verdell Herring on November 9, 1916 in Dayton, OH. He was a 1944 graduate of Dunbar High School and a Veteran of WWII. Raymond was a member of Phillips Temple CME Church and a member of the Musician's Union. Upon graduating, Raymond went on to become a professional musician and played with a number of famous bands and groups. He also played and entertained with his wife, Eleanore for many years. Raymond is also preceded in death by his brothers and sister-in-law, Thomas (Joyce) Herring and Carl Herring. He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife of 55 yrs., Eleanore; (1) brother, Wallace Herring; (1) sister, Patricia Armstrong; sister-in-law, Corene Herring and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a very close nephew, Gary Armstrong; special musician friends, Elmer Sloan, Eddie Brookshire, Dick Brown, Don Sutton, Henry Preston, Earl Crawford and many more. Funeral services 1:00 P.M., THURSDAY, May 12, 2011 at PHILLIPS TEMPLE CME CHURCH, 3620 Shiloh Springs Rd., with Reverend James E. Washington, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment: Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave. On line condolences may also be sent to the family at www.thomasfunerals.com
