News Death Notice

STAPLETON, Richard L. "Rickey Lee" age 52 of Beavercreek, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hatsumi Lewis; father, Ronnie Stapleton and step-father, Carroll Lewis. He is survived buy his loving daughter, Jessica Lynn Stapleton; aunt, JoAnn and uncle, Ken. Rickey was an avid sports fan and was a walking sports encyclopedia. He was a guy with a big heart and welcoming smile. He will be greatly missed. A gathering of friends will be held at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 315 Martel Dr, Dayton, OH 45420. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.

Rickey was a good friend of mine. We worked together at TGIF. He was a handsome and kind friend. My father helped him buy a new car. We took horseback riding lessons together. God bless him and his family. His mother was so sweet. I will always remember him.

Rick,

20 years. Seems like both a long and short time to know someone. Our encounters were infrequent and brief, usually involving the all so common transfer of a child between fathers and stepfathers. Occasionally we shared a joint trick or treat expedition or just hung out, sipping a few beers on the deck, watching Jessica and her friends play. Even though we only spent shreds of time together, you always managed to thank me for being a good stepdad. I thanked you for the opportunity.

I knew of your struggles in life. I saw that it affected your family and friends. Despite these things you, along with the absolutely required cooperation of Jessica's mother Kim,
were able to bring to this world a phenomenal young woman who continues to grow and amaze. I know you were proudest of that. Who wouldn't be!

Just last Tuesday, as Jess stood at my side trying to say goodbye, you reached out your hand one final time, to shake mine and thank me again. I feel I am the beneficiary of your life's greatest achievement. I hope I did my part well enough to make us square. Hope you felt the same.

Dear Jessica, I worked with your dad at TGIF Friday's. I remember him bringing you into the restaurant when you were a little girl. One thing I knew about your dad, is that he loved you. He spoke about you many times. Your dad was a sweet guy. I'm so sorry :(

Rickey, I will always remember our battles UK over Louisville and our trips to Louisville to Denny Crum's place as you were so committed to Coaches vs Cancer and always ready to lend a helping hand to others. How does it happen that We let time go by and lose touch with loved ones

Then, We are reminded of Our negligence when those loved one's suddenly
slip away. it was this way for Us, with Rick. He was a Nephew and Cousin in
Our Family and Our memories of him are golden...

Jessica, you don't know me, but I went to high school with your dad, played basketball with him, I knew your grandparents, and considered him a good friend. We didn't see each other a lot over the years, but I did run in to him a couple years ago and it was like old times.
