Rudolph KLEIN Obituary

News Death Notice

KLEIN, Rudolph Joseph "Bud" Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at age 86. Born in Joliet, IL to Rudolph and Lela Klein, he is survived by his sister Marge Thomson of Decatur, GA. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and generous friend to all for whom he was always on call as "the man who could fix anything." Bud was a talented electrical engineer who graduated from Georgia Tech in 1950 and received his Masters of Engineering from the University of Tennessee. His innovation and inventiveness resulted in many patents and carried him through several distinguished careers, beginning with Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he worked on some of the world's first computers. He went on to make industry contributions at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, Univac in Philadelphia, Cogar in Utica, NY and Monarch Marking Systems in Dayton where he led Product Development from 1974 to 1996 and worked as a valued consultant until 2009. He was a tireless advocate and mentor to many colleagues over the years. Bud was a tremendously dedicated family man and some of his happiest working days were spent in partnership with his sons at Ray Engineering Company. Married in Chicago in 1953, Bud was a devoted husband to Margaret (Marge) Klein for 62 years. He was beloved father of Helen (Donald) Ross of New York City; Katherine (Steve, deceased) Kane of Kailua, HI; Jon (Gail) of Centerville, OH; deceased son Kevin (Terri); Ann Marie Klein of St. Paul, MN; Dan (Cathy) of Centerville, OH; Trish (Chris) Allen of Independence, KY; and Maggie (Joe) Abruzese of Newton, MA. He was loving PopPop to Margaret and Katherine Ross; Stephan, Kevin and Mary Claire Kane; Graham, Thomas, Reed and Michael Klein; James and Mara Klein; Grace and Sara Klein; Matthew and Theresa Allen; Luke and Will Abruzese. The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the devoted support of loving caregivers at Brighton Gardens and Hospice of Dayton. Funeral Mass on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 am, St. Henry's Parish, 6696 Springboro Pike, Dayton. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM at Tobias Funeral Home at 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton. Bud was really a "special" guy. I worked at Monarch during his time there, He was always professional but more importantly was an inspirational, kind, encouraging person who always had time for others. Always positive, helpful and friendly. He was appreciated by many, many people. I was very lucky to have gotten the opportunity to know and work with him. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the Klein family.

Dear Marge (and Family),

We were so sorry to hear about Bud's passing. He always seemed to have a smile on his face every time we saw him. This is "bittersweet" to know that he will no longer be here on Earth, but to know that he is now with Kevin, seems to make it a little easier. Rest in peace, Bud.

With Much Love,

Kurt, Jenni, Eric (Katie), Rachael and Albie Robinson

My condolences to the Klein Family. I worked with Bud on several projects throughout his career at Monarch. Bud was an inspirational man, encouraging his team to go beyond the norm and explore the possibilities. His guidance and enthusiasm on the Pathfinder project help deliver one of the most innovative products ever produced at Monarch. Bud always had a smile and a respectful word towards me. He consulted me from time to time and that just re-enforced my respect for him. I believe my career was enhanced by his comments, assistance, and example. And talk about drive, he could out pace me on the stairs, taking 2 steps at a time every time he climbed the stairs. Please know he is missed.
