Michaud, Scott Michael
Scott Michael Michaud, Springboro, Ohio
September 21, 2005 – September 5, 2025
Whether you called him Scott Michael, Scotty/ie, Scott, or son, everyone ultimately knew him as the same thing-simply one of the best.
Scott died on September 5, 2025, in Milwaukee, after a car accident near Marquette University's campus that also claimed the life of his teammate. He was just a few weeks away from his 20th birthday. Born on September 21, 2005, in Dayton, Ohio, Scott packed an extraordinary amount of life into his short years.
He leaves behind his parents, Diane and Craig; his brothers, Sebastian and Craig; and his beloved dog, Thor. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Pegi and John Bivens; his paternal grandparents, Craig and Nancy Michaud; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Alexis, Jacob, and Taylor, who lived with their family during his childhood and were like bonus siblings. Scott shared an inseparable bond with his high school sweetheart and longtime girlfriend, Caroline Ling; the two were truly like peas in a pod, cheering each other on in all aspects of life, especially their shared love of lacrosse. He will also be deeply missed by countless friends, his current and former teammates, and the close-knit group of neighbors from his cul-de-sac who were like extended family.
Scott excelled in the classroom and was pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences at Marquette University, with plans to become an anesthesiologist. A dedicated student and athlete, he balanced school with the competitive drive and love of lacrosse that shaped so much of his life. At Springboro High School, he was a standout goalie, a two-time captain, and a US Lacrosse All-American. Twice named Conference Position Player of the Year, he helped lead the Panthers to two conference titles and competed nationally with Resolute 2024 Ohio and Project Midwest. Recognized as a three-star recruit by Inside Lacrosse, Scott was proud to go on to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette, where he earned a place on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team last year. Beyond the competition, lacrosse gave him a lasting brotherhood of teammates and friends. He approached the game the same way he approached life, once writing in a college essay: "Success is not guaranteed. You have to work for it. Give everything you have-not once or twice, but hundreds or thousands of times."
Scott's family will always remember his smile, his quick banter, and the funny expressions he would randomly introduce -like declaring someone had been "absolutely hornswoggled." His older brother, Sebastian, treasures countless hours of fiercely competitive backyard lacrosse, attack versus goalie, which gave rise to Scotty's favorite acronym, BTS-"Better Than Sebastian." His younger brother, Craig, is grateful for the time they worked together this past summer and the lunch break conversations they shared. Scott loved spending time with his family, Caroline, and his many friends, whether they were playing golf, gaming, or simply hanging out together. He also enjoyed watching sports and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Flyers, and he looked forward to family trips to Florida-whether for spring break or to visit his grandparent's home, Pegi and John-which became a special tradition.
Scott was more than his accomplishments on the field and in the classroom-he was an exceptional young man whose character shone in everyday moments. He was hardworking and driven, but also funny, respectful, and kind. Friends remember his warmth and humor, his unflappable nature, and his enthusiasm for whatever was important to those around him. He quietly became part of many families, whether through friendships, neighbors, or time spent with Caroline and the Ling family, slipping easily into their lives with his teasing jokes, lighthearted comments, and genuine interest in what others cared about.
To those who knew him, Scott was an inspiration. Teammates, classmates, neighbors, and friends have shared reflections about the ways he encouraged them, lifted them up, and made their lives better. His brother Sebastian said it best: Scott was good at finding the light.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love from friends, teammates, and neighbors, and the Marquette University community, whose support has been a source of comfort during this unimaginable loss.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 from 10:30AM to 1:30PM at Fairhaven Church Springboro, 875 W. Central Ave, Springboro, OH, 45066. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1:30PM. with Pastor Jared Petty officiating. Private family burial to follow.
