Stanley Tecoma Obituary

News Death Notice

TECOMA, Stanley Martin of New Lebanon, OH, beloved father, passed away suddenly but peacefully at his vacation home on September 17, 2009 at the age of 91. He was born in Bordentown, New Jersey on August 24, 1918, the eldest son of seven siblings born to creative, hardworking Russian and Polish immigrants, Alex Tecoma and Sofia Govrin. Following high school he joined the United States Army Air Corps at the start of World War II, serving in the international theatre as a radio operator, mechanic, and gunner in the Asian theater and finally including special operations under General LeMay. His wartime service was a great source of quiet pride, and we are indebted to him for missions of immense courage, with outcomes that may have facilitated victory in the late course of the war. At war's end, he married his wartime sweetheart Inez Thierfelder, and settled in Dayton Ohio. The couple had three daughters. Stanley was a valued career employee of the Dayton Power and Light Company, systems operator in electrical distribution and technical specialties. Later in life Stanley was happily remarried for 27 years to Norma Dodson Tecoma. His well-earned retirement brought him great joy in gardening, fly fishing, time with family, and maintaining two homes until his death. He was renowned for his vine ripened tomatoes, six foot dahlias, and success as a fly fisherman at his vacation cottage "La Dacha" at Indian Lake. He was devoted to Norma, who preceded him in death several years ago. Two brothers -Victor Tecoma and Virgil Tecoma also preceded him in death. Stanley is survived by his daughters and sons-in law, Pamela and John Cairns of Huntington Beach, CA; Dr. Evelyn Tecoma and Dr. Vicente Iragui of Solana Beach CA; and Linda Davis of Dayton Ohio; his sisters Pauline Tecoma, Janet Coats, and Olga Hall of Newport News, VA and Virginia Gilmore of Tucson, AZ; nephews Gordon Tecoma, William Hall, Alex Tecoma, Tom Gilmore, and William Tecoma; nieces Patricia Rogers and Margaret Abernathy; his step children Shirley Lightcap, Judy Kreitzer, and Darrel Kreitzer, and many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family, and friends, and neighbors, new and old. A celebration of Stanley's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at ROGERS' FUNERAL HOME, NEW LEBANON, 324 W. Main St. 45345, with Ms. Iva Mae Hawley officiating. Interment will follow at Bear Creek-Hillgrove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. My heartfelt condolences to Linda, Evelyn, and Pam. I'm so grateful for the love he and Mother shared, and for his loving care for her in her time of need. He was much more than our "step-dad, granddad, great granddad, and great-great granddad" to me and my family. He showed us all much love and interest in our lives. He will truly be missed by all of us; and I will especially miss driving him to and from the lake for his fishing.

I could not have had a more thoughtful, loving, and caring stepfather than Stanley. He was a real "dad" to me in the truest sense of that word, and he was a wonderful husband to my mother. He was devoted to her, and stood by her in her time of need. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
