ALLAN NASH Obituary

August 24, 1916 – August 28, 2013

Allan was the son of Frederick and Eddith Nash of Moorhead, IA. He was born August 24, 1916 and grew up on the family farm near Moorhead.

Allan graduated from Moorhead High School in 1933 and graduated from Drake University Law School in 1939. He then established a law practice in Charter Oak, IA where he met and on December 25, 1941 married Doris Woodford, a teacher and principal of the school.

Allan enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served in the African theatre of operations. Following graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1944, Allan served in various capacities at Gore Field in Great Falls, Montana until the conclusion of the war.

Following Allan's release from Active Duty in 1945, he and Doris moved to Denison, IA where he joined Floyd Page in the practice of law. He continued his service in the Iowa Army National Guard where he was instrumental in establishing a new unit in Denison. Allan's military service concluded in 1954 after having reached the rank of Captain and serving as the commander of the Denison guard unit.

After 69 years of marriage Doris passed away on August 5, 2010. Allan is survived by his three children: Robert (Martha) Nash of Omaha, NE, Barbara (Dale) Holdiman of Sioux City, IA, and John (Jodi) Nash of Lafayette, CO, eight grandchildren; Kristine (Nathan) Mucher, Jenny (John) Dillingham, Katy (Bill) Jetter, Julie (Mike) Romero, Laurie Holdiman, Sara Nash, Dan (Andrea) Nash and Dylan Nash, six great grandchildren; Lauren Mucher, Brinton Mucher, Miles Nash Jetter, Evan Jetter, Jack Dillingham and Elliott Nash.

Allan practiced law in Denison until his retirement in 1985. He was elected to one term as Crawford County Attorney and served as Denison City Attorney for a number of years. He was active in the Methodist Church, served as Secretary of the Board of the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and was active in numerous civic activities in Denison.

Following retirement, Allan and Doris moved to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas where they lived until 2009. Allan continued to be active in various civic activities in Horseshoe Bend. He was active in the Methodist Church but he was particularly proud of his work with Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Key Club which he established. The Key Club annually raises funds and awards college scholarships to area high school students.

Allan spent his last years in retirement facilities in Sioux City, IA and Omaha, NE in order to be near family. He passed away quietly on August 28, 2013. Allan's remains have been donated to the University of Iowa for the advancement of medical science and the teaching and research endeavors of medical education.

A memorial service will be held at Brookestone Meadows, 600 Brookestone Meadows Plaza, Elkhorn, NE on September 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
