John Jensen Obituary

John Carl Jensen February 19, 1933 ~ April 16, 2023 John Carl Jensen, age 90 of Scribner, Nebraska, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family around 4:30 P.M. on April 16, 2023. John was born on February 19, 1933, to George and Sigrid Jensen near Crescent, Iowa. He was one of eleven children born and raised in Crescent, Iowa. John attended country school and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. John married the love of his life on November 1, 1965, Elaine Barrier. The couple shared the story of their wedding day with their kids stating that they went to the courthouse, got married, and went back to work the same day. John and Elaine owned and operated a full-service gas station in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Soon their family grew; they were blessed with two boys, Jerry and Jay. The family moved to Omaha and were blessed with their daughter, Jonna. John worked as a mechanic with his brother Marvin in Omaha. Later he worked with his brother Harold as a mechanic at Frost Car Care in Omaha. John and Harold were at work together during the Tornado of 1975. The tornado caused much damage, injured people, and resulted in three casualties. John and Harold laid one on top of the other inside a vehicle that was in the shop for repairs. The building was demolished, and the two were lucky to have survived. John and Elaine moved to Magnolia, and John continued to work as a mechanic at Frost Car Care in Omaha. John and Elaine commuted to Omaha for work. Not only did John drive Elaine, he chauffeured ladies from Harrison County for many years as well. John would fill the van up with gas and purchase a six pack of beer every Friday. The ladies enjoyed a beer on the ride home. Later, John worked for Bond Equipment in Logan. He retired from Bond in his 70's, but continued to work part-time until he was 84 years old. John loved spending time with his family, especially at the Jensen reunions, and attending the Old Settler's celebration in Magnolia. John enjoyed Sunday drives with Elaine in her convertible, parades, picnics, gardening, fishing, cutting wood, going to the casino, John Deere collectibles, puzzles, playing pool, bowling, dancing the two step, polka, and an occasional beer. John also enjoyed starting up his 1930 John Deere motor that he inherited from his Dad. John had displayed this motor in many local parades. He loved starting it and listening to it while sitting in the driveway. John became a widower in November of 2012 when Elaine passed away. Eventually John moved to Scribner, Nebraska to be closer to his daughter Jonna. John continued to live his life to the fullest. He loved going for drives to Iowa, visiting family, and loved to eat out, especially breakfast. John was known to eat cake for breakfast with a cup of coffee; this was one of his favorite meals. John was preceded in death by his parents George and Sigrid Jensen, his wife Elaine Jensen, and seven siblings. John is survived by his three children Jerry Jensen (Lora) of Woodbine, Jay Jensen (Linda Cox) of Logan, Jonna Schlecht (Lowell) of Scribner, NE; seven grandchildren John Cox, Ryan Cox, Cid Jensen, Cheyenne Spicka, Eric Anderson, Dakota Anderson, Christian Jensen; ten great grandchildren; two brothers Robert and Marvin Jensen; one sister Geraldine Stahlnecker; and many more relatives and friends. Funeral services were held April; 20, 2023 at the Logan Christian Church in Logan, Iowa with Pastor Kyle Drown officiating. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace", "Go Rest High On That Mountain", and "Precious Memories". Pall Bearers were Cid Jensen, Christian Jensen, Eric Anderson, Dakota Anderson, John Cox and Ryan Cox. John's final resting place will be at the Frazier Cemetery, Logan, Iowa.
