Walt was an honest, hard working farmer and dedicated truck driver that supported his nine children on a farm near Arion, Iowa before moving to an acreage north of Dow City, Iowa.
Walt and his wife enjoyed many years of marriage and several trips to the casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were members of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Pinochle Club, a Square Dance Troupe, and took pleasure in many gatherings with their own brothers and sisters, and their children.
Walt spent many hours helping his children prepare 4-H livestock for the Crawford County Fair. He was a volunteer of many types to his community. He helped with Pancake Days and all community events as well as all of the fund raising events the church was involved in.
He was always willing and eager to help his neighbor. His fondest memories are when he would deal cards at Dow City's "Stag."
Walt not only raised his large family, but he drove a milk truck, farmed his land, and custom trucked and baled hay for the neighbors. Upon moving to Dow City, he began an independent trucking business which hauled farm-to-market, and ran a corn cop shelling business, one of the few in the county.
