WALTER TRUITT Obituary

Walter Stanley Truitt, age 92 , of Dow City, Iowa, passed away January 27, 2015. Services will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dow City, officiated by Father Tim Boekelman, and burial at the Dow City, Cemetery under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.

Walt was preceded in death: his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Louise; his eldest son, Stanley Eugene; two brothers; Orville and his wife Norma, and Earl.

Survivors include: three sons; Ronald and his wife, Wilma, William and his wife, Hope. Michael; five daughters; Patricia and her husband, Pascal, Kathleen and her husband Patrick, Beverly Stone, Mary and her husband Matthew, and Paula and her husband Michael. He was also blessed with 23 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends

Walt was an honest, hard working farmer and dedicated truck driver that supported his nine children on a farm near Arion, Iowa before moving to an acreage north of Dow City, Iowa.

Walt and his wife enjoyed many years of marriage and several trips to the casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were members of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Pinochle Club, a Square Dance Troupe, and took pleasure in many gatherings with their own brothers and sisters, and their children.

Walt spent many hours helping his children prepare 4-H livestock for the Crawford County Fair. He was a volunteer of many types to his community. He helped with Pancake Days and all community events as well as all of the fund raising events the church was involved in.

He was always willing and eager to help his neighbor. His fondest memories are when he would deal cards at Dow City's "Stag."

Walt not only raised his large family, but he drove a milk truck, farmed his land, and custom trucked and baled hay for the neighbors. Upon moving to Dow City, he began an independent trucking business which hauled farm-to-market, and ran a corn cop shelling business, one of the few in the county. His last years were spent driving a truck for the Muff Brother's Corporation of Dow City, Iowa.

He valued his wife, his family, good work ethics and honesty in a person.

He never quite understood the word 'rest' and felt that he must always stay busy in order to feel a sense of contribution.

Walt found pleasure in mental math, playing cards, being with family, and traveling to casinos. He always had a running tally of his winnings and loses, and a story to go with it.

Walt had a kind heart, was a loving father and husband, who had a driving work ethic.

He will be missed.
