Edward LaFontaine Obituary
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a 1959 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He worked for 47 years at Monroe Grain Elevator and served on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.
Ed loved to talk and enjoyed calling his friends and he and his wife were part of farmer's table at Becky's Restaurant in Willshire. As being a farmer his entire life, his world revolved around planting and harvesting and he would always be up for a crop tour.
Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy LaFontaine of Decatur; a son, Tony (Jean) LaFontaine of Decatur; 2 daughters, Deb (Todd) Hawkins and Kathy LaFontaine both of Decatur; 3 sisters, Ann (Jack) Grothaus of Landeck, OH, Ruth (Charlie) Ellis of Dubuque, IA, Pat (Ken) Biberstein of Indianapolis; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Ramsey, Brandon (Ilissa) LaFontaine, Tyler (Molly) LaFontaine, Jessica (Braidon) Harris, and Ethan (Katie Mahlan) Hawkins; 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John LaFontaine and Paulie LaFontaine, in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary's Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will follow immediately after in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, Heart-to-Heart Hospice or St. Joseph Catholic School.
