Mark Turner Obituary

Mark Neil Turner, 65, of Decatur, IN passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 15, 1957, at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL., he is the son of Neil and Barbara Turner of Fort Wayne. Mark married Cathy Maines in 1980, and she preceded him in death in May 2021. Their pride and joy was always their son James "Alex".

Mark spent his childhood in Akron, Ohio, and still has childhood friends from there to this day. He was a 1976 graduate of Bellmont High School and a 1980 graduate of Ball State University, with a degree in Radio and Television. If you knew Mark, you knew how much he loved film, but especially horror and action films. Over many years, when he had the chance, he would attend Cinema Wasteland in Cleveland with his son and good friends, Arthur Nern and Mike Gumm.

Out of college, Mark worked as a manager for Lowe's Theater in Indianapolis and loved it. When he and Cathy (and Alex) moved back to Decatur he became part owner/manager of Popcorn Video, wrote Digital Reviews for the Daily Democrat for 25 years, and worked as Manager for Big Lots in Van Wert, before retiring. Mark was a huge Bellmont Band and Callithumpian supporter (supported ANYTHING Halloween!!!!).  He loved Famous Monster Pizza and would share that love with anyone he met. Every nurse and doctor he met this past year, knows about Famous Monster Pizza!!!

His love of Movies, Books, Music, and Politics had no end.

Mark is survived by his son, James "Alex" (Amber) Turner; parents, Neil and Barbara Turner; sisters, Debbie and Lisa (Greg) Salway and an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and so many friends that he loved dearly.

There will be a Celebration of Life at CROSSROADS CHURCH in Decatur, IN, on Saturday, June 17th from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Callithumpian Parade Committee.
