Alice Evans Obituary
AGE: 98 • Wilmington
Alice "Sally" Willard Evans, age 98, of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Evans, with whom she shared almost 70 years of marriage. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the second oldest of eight children born to Theresa and Douglas Willard. Alice, fondly known as Sally, was a beautiful model and remained an elegant woman all her life. Her career began at the Wharton School where she trained as a typist. Excelling in her field, she worked at the DuPont Experimental station producing technical graphs and charts long before computers. In 1978 she founded the original Tag Sales, Inc. Known far and wide for her butter cake, her love of cooking inspired her to write and publish a cookbook with her daughter at age 93. She had many friends and built life-long relationships with her co-workers, neighbors, Red Hat Society, and WW II Checkertail Clan. Large families were always welcome in her home, as she always had a seat for one more at the table. She was kind and generous to everyone and touched so many lives. She inspired others to find the good in any situation.
Survivors include Mary and Mike Sullivan, Jim and Mary Evans, Susan and Russell Messick, and Kathy and Dwayne Cluff. She was a loving Mom Mom to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, as she named each one in her prayers every night. Sincere thanks to all of the dedicated caregivers who supported her to remain in her home.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2016 from 11am to 12 noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 noon. Interment will be Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10am in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers, please provide a meal to the hungry or contribute to your local food bank.

Its hard to believe that Sally moved into the arms of our Lord 6 years ago!. Where has that time gone? I will forever remember her smile, kindness, and never ending love for her family and friends. She was everything that I could even wish to be. She was so accomplished and feminine in her every move. She emitted a beauty that runs deeper than skin. She always welcomed me with opened arms (even when she didn't feel well). Strong....such a strong woman! Rest well, my dear friend...Love from Valerie

I will always remember Ms. Evans as a person who was always unfailingly kind and generous to me whenever I visited her at home. She always asked me how I was doing. Her children and grandchildren were always by her side and you could feel how much they loved her. That's a testament on how great of a person she was!

I will cherish my cookbook forever. Sally was an amazing woman,friend,mither, grandmother,and great grandmother...what a legacy she leaves behind. She told me stories of yesteryear that kept me mesmerized. I will always cherish the times I spent with her & her loving family. May God bless each of you and keep you forever in his care.

One of the best moments early in my life was meeting Sally through my husband Jack. She was an inspiration to me, always energetic, positive & helpful. She gave me great tips on cooking & buying antiques. She encouraged our family to go to Ocean City, NJ on vacations with her family & we had some great times. We will never forget Sally.
