Alice Pizzadili Obituary

Alice Mae Brown Pizzadili

AGE: 90 •

Alice Mae Brown Pizzadili, 90, passed peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston, ID. Five days after her passing, her devoted Pomeranian, Libby, followed her. Alice was born on May 5, 1925, in Elizabeth, PA, to Thomas, a coal miner and WWII veteran, and Esther Brown. When Alice was only 4 1/2 months old, her father passed suddenly leaving her mother to raise three young children during the Great Depression. Alice was proud to say, "I was born a coal miner's daughter." Alice left home at the age of 16 and worked in the Clairton Steel Mill and Coke Works during WWII. She later moved to Trenton, NJ, and worked for Westinghouse making light bulbs. At a 1948 New Years Eve church event in Trenton, Alice met the love of her life, James J. Pizzadili. Married September 10, 1949, Alice and Jim lived in Felton, DE where they raised three children and worked in the family businesses: Pizzadili Poultry Inc. and Pizzadili's Delicatessen. In the early 1970's Alice was a seamstress in Harrington, DE, making Vera Blouses, then as a bridal consultant for Benjamin's in Dover, DE. In 1978, Alice and Jim moved to Lewes, DE, where Alice established Alice's Alterations and for 12 years was a bus driver for the Sussex Consortium in Cape Henlopen School District. Alice was a devoted wife, mother and bus driver and was an accomplished quilter. In the 1950's, she became interested in antique/classic American furniture, and for several years bought pieces at auction and refinished them to furnish their home. Having dropped out of school as a young girl, she went on to obtain her GED in her 50's, as well as an extensive course in Dress Making and Design. In 1996 her husband, Jim, passed and in 2004 Alice moved to Idaho to be with her daughter where she enjoyed quilting, and traveling on many road trips around the Northwest.

Alice was preceded in death by her father Thomas Brown, her mother and step father, Esther and John Mottor, her husband James J. Pizzadili, and her sister, Olive Jalosky. Alice is survived by her brother, William (Betty) Brown of Aztec, NM, children John (Ginger) Pizzadili of Bordentown, NJ, Dr. James J. Pizzadili, Jr. DC of Anchorage, AK, Sheryl L. Pizzadili in Lewiston, Idaho, grandchildren James (Mary) Pizzadili of Middletown, DE, Sarah (Ryan) Delaney of Bordentown, NJ., along with her great grandchildren, Jade, John, and Serena, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held December 5th at 10am at the Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 S. State St., Dover, DE. Cremation has taken place and burial at Sharon Hills Cemetery will be private.

One memory I have of her was when a young gal from Phila brought mom a strapless pink taffeta Gone With the Wind style prom dress that was WAY to small. Mom worked her majac and was able to make that dress zip. She matched every bow, ruffell and seam. Flawless. Mom was so gifted. I miss her every single day.

I have fond memories of Mama Pizzadili from hanging out with Sheryl at their house when we were in high school. I remember we would sneak into Mom's bedroom and spritz ourselves with her Estee Lauder perfume before we went out and then we'd run downstairs and out of the house thinking she wouldn't know we got into her perfume. Of course we left a strong wake of Estee, so I suspect she knew! I still wear that fragrance to this day. Peace, Love and Blessings.

Aunt Alice, you will be sorely missed! We all loved you so much and we had so many wonderful times at your home in Delaware. You were very generous with your love for us. You had a beautiful family, John, Jim and Sheryl, and our family admired you so for your talent and sweet personality. May you rest in peace with the reunion that you so wanted with your Dad, Thomas. With love and sadness,

We all have our own special memories of our dear Aunt Alice. She was blessed with many talents that she used to bless others and her family. I am reminded of her every single day with the beautiful and warm quilt that she made for me like she did so many others. The love she put into making each one, will be felt for years to come. It was her way of being with you when she couldn't. I only hope Aunt Alice knew how much it means to me. I wish I would have told her more. We rejoice in knowing that you're at peace now. Our love goes with you.

Thanking and Praising The Lord for beautiful Aunt Alice and thinking of how much she and her family are appreciated, missed, loved and adored!

We are richly blessed to have the fondest and greatest memories and will continue to treasure them forever.

While I listen to this great hymn Sheryl posted recently, I share the lyrics in remembrance, of how truly Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

[Refrain]
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Extending our heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your Mom. Both John and I always enjoyed conversing with both your Mom and Dad at family events in NJ. Besides being relatives, both your parents were very close friends to my parents. Now they are all together again. In our thoughts and prayers.

Sheryl,
I remember both Jim and Alice with great fondness. They were great people. I have often thought about Alice wondering how she was doing. I am saddened to learn of her passing. You and your family have my thoughts and my prayers. She will be missed. We knew them through the Shrine and your Mother hemmed many a pair of trousers for Ronnie! I am in Florida now for the winter or I would be at her memorial.
