Anita (Ann) C. Thomas

Anita (Ann) C. Thomas, age 87 of Newark, DE, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 with her family by her side.

Born in Framingham, MA on April 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Nita (Morse) Crawford.

Ann grew up in Cotuit, MA (Cape Cod) where her parents owned a seasonal hotel called The Pines. She graduated from Northfield Seminary in East Northfield, MA in 1944 and from Skidmore College in NY in 1948 with a degree in art/advertising. She continued working at her family's hotel in the summer and at various Florida hotels in the winter. In 1953, she married William H.L. Thomas of Norristown, PA. They purchased and managed The Kitty Knight House Restaurant in Georgetown, MD. Bill passed away in 1971 and Ann sold the restaurant. She then worked at Broadmeadow, Independence, and Tatnall schools before retiring in 1997.

In her mid 40's she took flying lessons and received her Private Pilot certificate and Multi-Engine rating. Her hobbies included sewing and knitting which was highlighted by making Scottish kilts. In her 70's she took acting lessons and loved performing in local plays. Music was always important to her. She was a member and past President of the Blue Rock Chorus and sang in the Limestone Presbyterian Church choir. There she served as an Elder and Pastoral Coordinator. In 2009, she organized the Comfort Shawl Ministry which has given over 600 shawls to those in need. Recently she also began a Centering Prayer Ministry.

She was most proud of her surviving family: Anne L. Thomas, an ICU nurse at the VA hospital in Wilmington, DE, Dr. John C. Thomas, a Professor of Biology, Univ. of Michigan-Dearborn, Dearborn, MI, and William C. Thomas, an FAA air traffic controller at Potomac Tracon, Warrenton, VA. Also loved were her last dog Sadie and cat Kitty.

Her outlook on life was positive, her faith important to her, and she loved to laugh. Her advice: "remember to have fun- as most things in life are funny".

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Limestone Presbyterian Church Choir, 3201 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
