Anthony Candeloro Obituary

Anthony J. Candeloro, Sr.

AGE: 80 • Newark, DE

Anthony J. Candeloro, Sr. (Tony) of Newark, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2014. He was born on October 15, 1933 in Claymont, Delaware to Carmine and Rose (DeChec) Candeloro. Tony graduated from Claymont High School in 1951 and played football for the Indians all four years. He was proud of his Claymont roots, being an active member of the Claymont R.O.M.E.O. club for many years and participated in monthly luncheons with other Claymont HS alumni.

He attended the University of Delaware, graduating in 1955, and was a proud member of the Blue Hens football team. He continued to support the Blue Hens as a season ticket holder and attended every home game.

After graduating from college he was drafted into the Army where he served two years, mostly in Italy. He retired from a career in the Federal Government, working in the Social Security Administration. After retiring, he went to work for People's Bank of Elkton, MD. He also spent 25 years working evenings and weekends at the Brandywine Racetrack.

As a sports enthusiast he enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in all their athletic endeavors, coaching two generations at Midway Little League. He loved being an active part of his children and grandchildren's activities, and was often heard saying "If I knew grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first".

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Schulze.

Tony will be dearly missed by Shirley, his beloved wife of 54 years, and three children: Donna L. Scott (William), Anthony Jr. (Carolyn), and Danny (Karen).

He is also survived by his brother Isadore and wife Sandy, and his five grandchildren: Travis and Brandon Scott, Deanna Candeloro, Zachery and Sarah Candeloro.

Tony will be laid to rest at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. At the request of the family, services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations in Tony's memory to Wounded Warrior Project, a charity that he supported. Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8541.

Practically perfect. Uncle Tony was always such a joy-he appreciated a good joke, and was always ready with a smile. He had a way of bringing out the best in people. We are blessed to have been part of his family.
