Age 75, of Wilmington, DE, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Murray was born in Buena Vista, GA to the late Willie G. and Addie Mae (Terry) Murray. Archie had been a Delaware resident since 1948. He was employed with the Port of Wilmington as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1973. Mr. Murray continued his employment with Trans Cargo, retiring in 1998, after 25 years of dedicated service. In his leisure, Archie took great pride in his gardening and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine A. (McCollum) Murray; sister, Lorraine Murray; and granddaughter, Katherine Lynne Swire. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Wayne Murray, Donnie Murray, Archie L. Murray, Jr., and Lisa A. Murray-Swire and her husband, George Swire, Jr.; siblings, Willie Murray, Jr., JC Murray, Verdel Murray, Florine Johnson, Betty Hill, Mary Barnes and Fannie Monroe; grandchildren, Kahaleelah Robertson, Na'Im McDaniels, London Murray, Dinea Elliot, Dyleisha Lewis, and Nathaniel Murray; great grandchildren, Hydia Briggs, Anijah McDaniels, and Kazia Briggs.
The funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Ezion Fair Baptist Church, 1230 N. French St., Wilmington, DE. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Sunday evening from 6:30-7:00 pm. Burial will be Monday, June 11, 2007 at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Pkwy., New Castle, DE, where family and friends will gather at 10 am at graveside for the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, dE 19810.
