Bonner
Barbara Smith Bonner, age 74, of Newark, DE, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Christiana Hospital.
Barbara was born in Buffalo, NY on October 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Robert Dwyer Smith and Frances Bowerman Smith. A 1956 honors graduate of Miami University and Phi Beta Kappa member, she was employed as a real estate professional for 15 years and as a university academic advisor. Barbara was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark, DE for 40 years and longtime member of the Friends of the Newark Free Library, serving as past presidents of both. She was also a Certified Master Gardener and served as a docent at Winterthur Museum for many years.
Barbara is survived by 3 children, Elizabeth B. Wallis and her husband, Jerry, of St. Louis, MO; David R. Bonner and his wife, Laura, of Newark, DE; Bruce W. Bonner and his partner, Andrew J. Leschak, of Philadelphia, PA; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Wallis and Danielle Wallis, both of St. Louis, MO; Stephanie Bonner and Kaitlin Bonner, both of Newark, DE; 2 sisters, Martha Simonds and husband, Richard, of East Lansing, MI; and Betsy Smith of Ft. Collins, CO; and by many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 420 Willa Road, Newark, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Friends of the Newark Free Library - Children's Summer Reading Program, 750 Library Ave, Newark, DE 19711.
